Post by Hellrayza76 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 12:28 am

Has anyone used or heard about the FM8 tutorials on this website? http://www.fm8tutorials.com/

I would like to know how helpful it is before I purchase them. Thanks!

I don't really agree about purchasing tutorials. You can find tutorials on youtube with pretty good information to get you started. Then you can take it from there and experiment.

I think those are made by somebody here on dsf.

In my opinion, it's not worth it to pay for those. There are decent enough tutorials for free all over the internet.

Pretty sure the author is on here.

If it's the one's I'm thinking of, his massive tutorials are quite good. Good FM8 tutorials are seemingly hard to find.

I simply would not pay for any tutorials... But I don't know the quality level of these videos in general
...in my opinion

There are many tutorials online, but they usually pertain to a specific subject. That one seems to be an all encompassing tut explaining every single aspect, not just how make to make skrillex bass or yada yada. I have been pretty interested as well I just think the price is a little bit steep. But I guess if you look at it this way, it is 12$ an hour. That is pretty cheap, given that is is extremely detailed and professional.

You could probably just read the manual and get the same information for free.

Believe it's deadly habit if I'm not mistaken. The tutorials are definitely good, or from what I saw anyway from the Massive one he posted.

Its Steve Foulds - who runs http://www.massivesynth.com/ and http://www.absynthtutorials.com/ as well.

He has a great knowledge of NI's synths and I think its a good thing hes trying to earn a bit of money from it.

I wouldn't really spend a lot of money on tutorials. You can find basically everything you need for free online...

Hey

Fm8tutorials is one of my websites (the others are for Massive and Absynth).

Yes - Deadly Habit worked on the Modulation video for Massive.

Paying for tutorials - i understand peoples reservations when there are lots of tutorials for free... but i don't think there is anything like this one for FM8 for free, not something that covers every feature of the synth (though there are some that will cover 1 or 2 features - mostly in the context of 'How to make XX sound'.

The other problem is with free tutorials are they are generally focused on 1 feature meaning you have to search for what you are looking for - this way they are all in one place.

I think $12 is pretty reasonable per hour considering there are tutorials online for hundreds even thousands of $$. There's also a 100% refund if you're not happy with them - so you have nothing to lose :)

As mentioned above the FM8 video isn't a how to make this sound tutorial - it's about FM Synthesis and how FM8 works and walks you through every panel, feature and function of the synth.

There is a new one coming later this week that is more dubstep focus - there's a preview here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0CYv13g0G8&feature=plcp

If you have any questions about any of the videos or the websites please drop me a PM and i'll get back to you asap!
