I didn't sample it, i made the screech in massive.

Here's basically what i did with the growl sounds:
SKRILLEX
I made a patch in FM8 which consisted of sine waves and simple waves like that. I modulated the amp of the frequency modulator to create a 'opening and closing mouth'. I assigned the mod wheel to this.
I then put it through ohmicide for some extra dirt.
Next I put it through a WOW filter in vowel mode on band reject. This was like the 'shape of the mouth'
I would modulate the mod wheel and WOW filter cutoff in a similar fashion to get it to growl.

SKRILLEX (Screech)
This was a patch in massive that uses saw waves in formant mode. I changed the pitch envelope of the formant to give it an interesting attack. Then I detuned the fuck out of it. Added a little dimension expander & chorus.

KILL THE NOISE
It's just a patch in massive that uses modern talking. Instead of spectrum mode I used pitch +/- mode or something like that. I modulated Wt.position and intensity appropriately to get the right vowel.

Obviosuly I've decribed it really simply but that was the process. I might make a video tutorial to go into further detail on what I did.
please make a video! :Q:

that's better than any video lol
so much better
just read the tut and make the patch
no pausing video, examining the screen and the tiny buttons
no two sources of sound, just your synth

videos suck compared to a tut that detailed

I'm getting some awesome vowel basses use Image Line's Harmless. Phaser (on condom mode) + Phaser filter, unison with some detune and grit, heating compression, and basically every useful parameter to the lfo. WOW filter also adds to the sound, but is more of a variation thing since its awesome even without it.

Sounds like the lovechild of Skrillex and Doctor P =D

Hmm I am having a bit of a struggle getting a hand on one concept you guys seem to use a lot - EQ modulation.

I know a lot of you guys modulate various peaks in a EQ8 or a Parametric EQ2 to make a vowel like sound for whatever synth you have going - how is this done exactly? Specifically in correlation to Manyyyys vowel bass from page 4, I don't really know where to set various peaks/notches on the audio spectrum to begin with (in EQ8 specifically) and how to move them to create a vowel sound. Can someone help me out or point me towards a good tut about it?

Modulating the amp of modulators is one of the bases of FM synthesis.
Yeah I've figured you could probably get some insane results but I was thinking it might going a bit too far, too time consuming and whatnot to be efficient. I recently bought FM8 though so once I'm done with the stuff I'm working on now and get some spare time I'll probably dig into that.
Too time consuming? It takes like 3 seconds.

Yeah I meant for the automation, you'd get a million different envelopes to fuck around with etc. But I guess if you set up one modulator and then automate that going into your main signal it would work nicely. Like I said, never really had the time to get into FM, been moving houses and busy at work etc since I bought FM8.

On the concept of EQ automation, I raised that question before here. I do it myself, basically just put in a couple peaks and notches to where it sounds good and then automate one of them. That gives you decent movement but not that vocally sound, I'd like to learn the more advanced techniques but I'm not really coming up with anything. I checked out some formant tables but I never managed to apply it, just sounded weak and weird.

Use macros in abletons instrument racks to control the modulator ratios, or whatever the equivalent is in your DAW. It makes it really easy and automating pretty much any modulator/carrier combo will sound at least somewhat cool.

The main thing, is to have two band pass peaks moving towards each other meeting at (roughly) the 400-500hz mark. Then sweeping away again, one down to around the 100hz range while the other sweeps to about the 1000hz and then back again but make sure they never cross over.
The real problem is which eq or filter to use.
I find that ableton has an extremely subtle eq that doesn't get anywhere near a good sound most of the time, but while using two state variable filters in reason the sound is almost spot on.
Give it a go so you can at least hear what I mean then practice that on other eqs/filter and see what you get.
Notch filters in the middle of the two can make for some slight changes in tonality too :)

Harmless' Phaser has a preset called condom. Kind of funny since the two preceding presets are 'deep' and 'deeper' ;D

I have some stuff that I would like to share but I can't stop soundcloud from making it sound completely different.

Compared to what It sounds like from the file on my computer, the soundcloud version isn't even worth showing. It sounds like distorted white noise is put over it.

this makes me sad

Im messing around with EQ, master levels, and file types right now to see if I can make any progress.

Here's the main thing:

Here's a variation of it that was actually one step before it.

Hmmm... im listening to the soundcloud versions again and they don't sound as horribly bad, but still, the dl links above sound way better.

29mb wav file, you serious?
Couldn't you just compress it to mp3?

He did it that way so the file would be loseless and high quality and so soundcloud wouldnt mess it up and distort it.
