speech / quotes
hey fellas,
I would like to know what kind of "matchword" do you enter in youtube( or whatever website ) when you are looking for great voices for your tracks ???
I'm out of idea , I'm pissed off to use all the time the voices from " the 100 greatest horror movies quotes " or " the 100 greatest movies lines " to find new vocals for my tracks ..
I don't know how to find new dark dialogues from old movies or stuff like that to put on my music
Any idea are welcome , cause I have a bad english so I don't really know what " matchword " should I use !
Cheers !

Re: speech / quotes
Just watch a lot of stuff and find good quotes.
I have gotten great vocal samples from loads of stuff....
Babylon 5, marvel cartoons, old radio shows from archive, movies which are dialog heavy (film noir stuff is BRILLIANT for this), TED Lectures...
Its not really something you type in, find then use - you have to search for bits what mean something to YOU. If you're just using because everyone does - then do you really need it?

I keep a notebook next to me at all times and if I'm watching anything that I hear a good sample, I'll make a note to chop it later with Audacity.

Use French stuff then! Doesn't have to be English to be part of your tune.

Re: speech / quotes
I'm a big fan of Russian dialogue.
I have no idea what it means but it sounds good.
That is after all what we're after isn't it?

Re: speech / quotes
Audio books are radio dramatisations of books/comics. Go to a charity shop and you will find loads of old ones on tape and CD, I normally see plenty of horror ones

Re: speech / quotes
movies have the best ambience recordings. the mechinest hase some great raw vocals like breathing etc, and alot of room noise... good for dark tunes.
Re: speech / quotes
Yeah, I do this too. I watch a lot of movies and series, and when I hear a quote that sounds poetic/dark/funny/awesome/whatever I'll write it down in my phone where I save all sorts of stupid shit. By now I have more samples than I know what to do with. I don't go hunting for samples, the samples hunt me y'know.wub wrote:I keep a notebook next to me at all times and if I'm watching anything that I hear a good sample, I'll make a note to chop it later with Audacity.
Sin City is gold. Never used one from there but I've wanted to for a long time. Fantastic movie.

Freshest track atm.
Re: speech / quotes
Best thing I ever did regarding this was route the the optical output of my DVR to a laptop. Can grab the sound right away in full digital 5.1 DTS. Sometimes I just record it all to one big file and then skim through it later. More and more satellite/digital cable companies are trying to disable this feature with encrypted cables and data though.
Re: speech / quotes
I noticed if you can get a 5.1 version of a movie it can be easier to sample from as sometimes the bit you want to sample is on a separate track from other things you don't want to sample that are going on at the same time
Re: speech / quotes
OP also download movie scripts or even audiobooks of books you know or have read. Like JRR Tolkien books as an example. I remembered a lot of cool dialogue from the Silmarillion stories, so I got the audiobook one day and the first 10 minutes alone was full of great phrases and words spoken in a serious deep voice.
Try to actually read the books or watch the films you take from though. A bit of a respect thing IMO. Obviously paying/clearing them would be better, but let's be real here hardly any of us can afford that and it would be denied more often than not surely.
