Lamar spoke recently in an interview with a radio station about a song off the album called "Dying of Thirst"; he went on to say that it is the deepest song on the album. He also stated good kid, m.A.A.d City will sound “nothing” like Section.80. “I couldn’t tell you what type of sound or where I’ma be in the next five years as far as music,” he said. “It’s a big difference from the next project compared to the last. And that’s what happened with this album. Going back to the neighborhood and going to different spots, chilling with my homeboys, put me back in that same space where we used to be, bringing back them thoughts, reminiscing how I was feeling. I got myself right back in that mode and I got inspired by that. So this album won’t sound like Section.80. Completely nothing like it,” he told to XXL. Confirmed features so far are his TDE's fellows Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock along with Dr. Dre and Lady Gaga.

This could be bad.

This.
I'm sure there will be a couple of "big" lead singles... the boy's got to make some bank, but I haven't felt loyalty to an MC like this in ages. He'll get the job done.

If you're a fan, the worst part is that he's getting "released" on Aftermath. The label's notorious for shelving shit.

The stuff that Aftermath has delayed/cancelled has always been stuff I could imagine Dre not being particularly excited about... Slim Tha Mobster, Stat Quo, The Game, Eve, Bishop Lamont etc... meh, I can understand why there would be 'creative differences' or delays between someone who deep down wants to change the game with every release (Dre) and people like that who really just want to make generic rap record #24834... but I get the impression he's bouncing off the fucking walls about Black Hippy like he was about Eminem. And rightly so...
I get the impression Detox gets pushed back every time Dre realises he's not a game-changing artist anymore. He just won't put shit out if it's not going to wow people.

I really like Gaga as a pop artist, but I just really wish she wasn't going to be on this album. Doesn't sound like a good combination at all.

the problem is that every time he pushes it back anticipation rises more and more - he's bringing himself to the boil and raising the bar so high that he'll never be able to match it!
I don't think anyone expects another Chronic 2001 either way

Exactly. Every delay means it has to be even better... I just don't think he's capable of it and I reckon he knows that too. I kind of hope it never gets released tbh, Hip Hop doesn't need its own 'Chinese Democracy'!

He loves Eve, he mentored her. Then there's Rakim, King Tee and Last Emperor who are among his favorite MCs and Hittman was Dre's new protegé, even getting an appearance at the end of the Forgot About Dre video.. And Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II was supposed to come out on Aftermath.
I think the most important thing is if Iovine sees a goldmine in it or not.

It's not about whether he loves them or not. I expect he loves Busta Rhymes too. It's about whether the album they release will be reviewed/accepted by the scene as "game changing". That's a whole different ball game to "I like this dude, I'm going to produce his album". A dodgy sequel to a classic album and a bunch of already-known rappers releasing their
next album aren't really the sort of things someone like Dre gets excited by. He wants to find the next Eminem or track beats for something as seminal as The Chronic or 2001... if it's not going to be legendary, he might as well just go back to pushing weights... dude's rich, he doesn't
need to be releasing anyone!
I imagine Iovine would rather they were releasing something than nothing, but I doubt he cares too much either - there are plenty of other rap imprints under Interscope... Aftermath is essentially an ego-project for Dre, it'll stay dormant until he finds something worthy of the name; with any luck the Black Hippy boys will provide it.

Really, Lady Gaga? All of the Black Hippy crew have put out brilliant albums. Here's to hoping that Gaga doesn't ruin this one.

Anyone care to link what they consider Kendrick Lamar's best tracks?
All i've really seen of him was his performance on stage with Snoop and Dre at Coachella and thought he was shit. And I heard something else I thought was shit.
But I'm wondering if maybe i'm missing out.
Oh and Lady Gaga on a hip hop track?... Fine! Just keep that annoying club/r'n'b/pop sound out of the mix there should be no problem. She has a good voice, it could work.
