Drum kits

Post by Hellrayza76 » Fri Aug 24, 2012 10:38 am

I have a few questions regarding drum sounds. I have some sounds downloaded but some of them seem like they've already been mixed to sound the way they do and sometimes for me that is not always a good thing since I like to be unique.

-Is it better to create all of your drum sounds from scratch using a synthesizer?

-Should I use a regular drum sound (The original kick sound for example on fl studio) and just mix it to my liking?

-And last question, for drum sounds that are mixed to sound a certain way, am I able to use those and mix it to my liking? A good example would be a hard snare with some reverb and a slow release.

Effected hits are pretty tough to re-sculpt.
It would be a better bet to get individual hits which you can layer or EQ to taste.
Synthesizing hits can also be very effective.

I'd suggest some good old sample hunting for drums, there are tons of free massive packs of drums floating around.
