That logic is completely nonsensical.
how so? if you don't like something, it's up to you to change it; it's not up to anyone else. Don't like the shows that go on? Throw your own. Every scene has always been oversatutated with shit, but the cream always rises to the top.
Apply it to anything besides music.

"If people are unhappy with the current action movies, they should make their own."
"If people are unhappy with the current restaurants, they should make their own."
"If people are unhappy with current TV shows, they should make their own."

Not everyone is a musician and it's stupid to expect them to be just 'cause they don't like some music. It's the same kind of logic that makes people say "well, it's better than what you can do!" every time they get any sort of criticism.

i still listen to quite a lot of older dubstep and i feel like i've not even scratched the surface of a lot of the stuff that came out before i got into the scene. however i can't really say the same of whats coming out now - i feel a bit detached from the purist dungeon stuff and i obviously don't like brostep/tear out stuff so apart from a few labels i'm not really keeping up to date with whats going on. i'm sure if i made the time i would probably find some stuff i would like or really like in the scene still though.

at the same time i'm not really keeping up with the post-dubstep/bass/house/TECHNO/juke/trap/whatever buzzword is being used this week stuff either. i listen to some rinse podcasts and buy a few things but thats about it. i feel like i'm looking for inspiration elsewhere rite now in music.

Usually, when people with ambition are unhappy with something, or feel there is a void that needs to be filled, they attempt to make the change. That is what separates those who are actually involved in something, and those who have feel like they're owed something. If you're an ambitious person and are unhappy with all the seafood places in your town, and are really passionate about it, you will open a restaurant. If you have no ambition and hate all the seafood in your town...you'll probably just bitch about it. Same goes for people who who aspire to be directors/actors/producers/animators, compared to a viewer.

And thats the issue; y'all are just bitching and not putting in any effort towards change anything. If your ambition level is just at the point where you want to be a listener, thats absolutely fine, but if you are really that bugged about how a sound is "gone" then y'all need to either buck up and do something about it, or shut up and keep listening to what makes you happy. There was obviously a time where there was stuff you liked, and the current sound just isn't your thing. Cool, find something else or keep listening to the classics and move on.

I get this all the time at shows too and give the same rant, its not directed at you specifically

Two points:
You're ignoring the infinite amount of shit that could be going on in someone's life to prevent them from opening a restaurant/producing/whatever.

and

You're assuming that the people who are bitching aren't either listening to what makes them happy and/or pushing their own sound.

yeah why can't someone call for better dubstep just bc they don't produce it themselves
i don't make heavy metal but i can critique and opine on heavy metal

just as much one mans right to criticize as it is the next man's right to ignore the crit and continue making what THEY want
the success zone is where someone's tuned in to the criticisms that are most prevalent, and responds to them
supply and demand, etc

it's worst when you're seeing a girl and she's all like awwwwwhhhjhh i like joy orbison!

i have genuinly stopped seeing a girl over that.

how about just generally not giving a shit?

I'm not unhappy with anything. I just have better things to do with my time these days.

Man's acting like just because stopped listening to the wubwub that I have no creativity in my life. I like and am good at things other than music you know

I'm allowed to listen to whatever genre of music I like and and not actually be a producer, I have a focus in my life that isn't wubwub, tits
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

There are the timeless tunes that will never be off my rotation, but I prefer organic sound music (couldn't think of a better way to put it), some of the people making what could be loosely termed garage (you'll know who if you've ever checked out my blog) are just doing it better than any dubstep guys. Whatever I hear now is either former dubstep producer's forced attempts at house/techno, 808 driven bass music, ultra-clean "dungeon" or stuff that sounds exactly like whatever's in the charts at the moment.

Old Apparatus are the best thing in dubstep at the moment. It's that feeling of merging a whole tonne of wide-ranging influences that attracted me in the first place, rather than dubstep producers being influenced by dubstep producers or producers being influenced by other producers who've just discovered that Detroit exists. It's primarily people like OA, Roof Light, etc. that make me explore other genres and see how closely they can tie into the vibes of dubstep (Check out OA's recent fact mix). Wish I had the balls to play out the sort of set I really want to, but would be off-putting doing it to an empty floor.

Also, getting into quite a lot of ambient stuff now, there's some really interesting stuff going on when people get away from the fetish we seem to have around fulfilling certain drum structures.

1) I'm not ignoring anything. Shit happens in life and you just deal with it. I work 2 jobs, go to Uni, live on my own and still find the time and the means to DJ/Promote/Produce. NumberNin6 was in med school for the last 5 years and still found time to produce and tour every weekend. At the end of the day, only you can hold yourself back. You find time to work on your ambitions and passions.

2) Did you not read what I said in the last paragraph? With regards to pushing your own sound, give me a break. Unless you're really out there grinding it out, putting in work in the local circuit as well as the internet, or getting on some x-treeme viral marketing, you're half-assing it. Even if you put in that amount of work, it might not pop off, and thats alright. Again, shit happens, you deal with it, move on, and change accordingly. Look at Parson.
Today wrote:yeah why can't someone call for better dubstep just bc they don't produce it themselves
I'm not saying you can't, but what good is it really doing? How much "better" dubstep is being made because people are chatting shit on a forum? All its actually done is made some artists care less about the "heads", and focus on the people who are bringing positive energy and are just loving the moment they're given.

Having an opinion is fine, but that doesn't mean it can't get played out.

You seen summer dude? It's currently August and earlier I was driving and people had to pull over because they couldn't see because the rain was too heavy. Big up.
