Why did these 2 threads get merged?
They're the same thread with the same answers.

there are some excellent tutorials from Distance (using Massive) where he goes through sound creation of this kind;

And a couple of discussion threads on it as well;

For me the dungeon sound is built mainly on the movement. In Massive, automate EVERYTHING, filters, envelopes, waveforms. And dont overdo the distorsion.
The "dungeon sound" growls are basically Reeses slowed down. So watch/read some tutorials on drum and bass reeses also.

does anyone produce dubstep mainly using ES2?

Post by jrevans92 » Wed Aug 29, 2012 4:35 pm

i was just wondering if ES2 is a good enough synth or if you're serious do you absolutely HAVE to get something like massive?

Depends if you can use it. If you can make all the sounds you need then it's fine, if not learn it

ES2 should be fine...as Brothulu has said, it should be capable of producing any sound you need once you've got your head round how to program it.

There's a thread here doing just that - http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=229394

And a YouTube video which will give you an idea of what can be done;

Watching tutorials for other synths you dont own and then attempting to do the same on another synth, for me at least, is a much better way to learn as you actually have to understand what the person is doing not just copying positions of knobs

This. Just watch very carefully what they are doing with the envelopes. Don't try to make a j:kenzo sound make your own its a lot easier since your not trying to copy anyone else and you don't need a certain synth.
