Intense build ups

I've been doing some research and cannot seem to find the answer I am looking for as to editing sound to help the rise up more intense. In certain sounds, the volume of the sound, whether it be a vocal, or an instrument sounds "lower", and builds up to be more intense. Am I overthinking? I at first assumed it was volume but saw in some situations it was not the case. Could it be a cutoff, or something to do with EQ?

Intense buildup ingredients: risers, white noise, MAYBE a bit of volume automation (not much though), slowly automating a highpass filter upwards, everything to make the drop have more impact

Automate the cut off on a high pass filter
Could also automate the panning of two seperate instances of the sound so it 'spreads' out as it rises

Automate a filter cutoff on your synths, automate a substantial increase in reverb, have a saw wave rise in pitch from the initial key of the song, have white noise filter in, bandpass your main sounds from after the drop to tease them, autmate the sub to cut out well before the drop, automate an increase in delay feedback on your lead synths if appropriate. Lots of stuff you can do

the thing (i think) you're referring to is a low pass filter with automation that makes it slowly open.

You can automate volume into a coloring compressor/limiter or saturation/distortion, so that the increase is more harmonic then dynamic.

Dynamics = Diversity in Volume
Harmonics = Frequencies

y the fuck is nearly every1 giving the exact same tip about filters and white noise lol
gradual pitch bends can help with any sound as it rises up whether its fx or synthlines.
also dont have much bass in the build up you want to save that for the drop typically.
lastly just listen to a bunch of build ups of songs you like and pick out what was special about it

You can do this with the above mention methods, but any way to add dissonance would be worth trying. Also, having a sense of impact can really make things build. As you go, perhaps make your drums sound less like drums and more like heavy clashing objects. As well, perhaps have a bass/mid rumble that gradually increases in volume. These are just ideas, get creative with it.

This song, Bill Posters & Deckscar - Face Off (Bassnectar Remix) goto 6m30s. One of the most "intense" risers I've ever heard. I heard it a few months ago live and it literally blew my mind with Bassnectars' screens and shit combined. Now he released it in a mix and I'm so happy to hear it again it gives me goosebumps. It's like the eternal riser lol!

White noise, misc effects or anything that creats a rising effect either in volume or pitch can be used, using a vareity of many diffrent types depending on your tunes, sometimes filters like high pass ect ect

Most intense build I saw live was on Mogwai Fear Satan by Mogwai on live. This is a weird approach.
It's just a massive decrescendo and slowdown, for roughly 2 min'. The sound eng decrease master's PA too, 1 sec pause, then full master, all overdrive on, the effect is crazy. Support for the build down as build up thing (do I make sense?)

sounds like it starts building with square waves then the riser fades in.
