internet communities grow, flourish, age, and die... just how it is amigo. I'm certain ots of folks from the 2006 era DSF don't make music any more. some never did, and just enjoyed hanging out here. Lives move on and the music evolves into things other than what brought people here.

Same thread every few months. The world is ending! Everything is shit! It's not like the good ol' days!

Random idea, and just a thought here...instead of complaining about what you don't like, try posting about something you do like.
Sharmaji wrote:Lives move on and the music evolves into things other than what brought people here.
Couldn't agree with this more. Folk sit around whining about the good ol' days too much...things move on, that should be apparent by now.

Or people directing them to where the information can be found...

wormcode wrote:I think also people can just link to one of the 10,000 youtube videos to explain stuff now, so technical posts get a bit obscured.
The issue with a YouTube video is that it is eventually a one way conversation...someone is telling you something. If you don't agree, or have a question, you can't stop a YouTube video (or god forbid, post in the YouTube comments section :o ) to ask a question.

On a forum you can. Obviously, stuff is going to get regurgitated. And there is a fine line between discussing a new aspect of a particular topic vs. kicking off at someone asking the same question without checking the search. Or in some cases, looking a few threads down on the front page.

But shit moves in cycle. We used to have a Skrillex/Bro meta-thread to contain all the threads/questions/quotes/posts/videos about him and his production style. It worked (in a roundabout way) as a method of containment when people were kicking off and saying "oh the forum is all Skrillex, man it was never like this, man I should LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK" and then the waters subsided and the land was green & verdant again.

Now we've got a similar situation with a rise in trap discussion threads. If I thought for one moment we could start a "Trap Production Techniques" meta-thread without it being trolled to fuck by some of the regular posters (with their sense of entitlement as they were here first) then I'd do it.

But the volume of topics on the subject doesn't warrant it, not just yet. There are big Trap threads in nearly every other major board on this forum. SNH has one, think General has one too...but not Production. Yet. It might come, and if it does it'll represent just another curve in the road that is music, production, forums and life in general.

tl;dr - This things happen. Doesn't mean the old ways are suddenly no longer relevant.

^ what sharm said! Fads come & go..some people lose interest, and some are just sparking an interest..

I personally like this whole trap thing, & since it's such a new thing(since I hear more people talking about it), that means soon the listeners will move on as well.
So soon the ones who loved the old sound can bring it back to it's roots & make it fresh again!

I can already see it...

With all due respect, while I agree with the "if you don't like it make your own" argument - it's kind of more about peers. It seems like a lot of the same groanworthy questions by people who can't be bothered to search, over and over and over. A lot of this information is out there in so many forms (just do a search for 'wobble tutorial') that ironically it doesn't even need to get covered here anymore. There are competitions running, but some of them aren't really accessible for everybody (the ones driven by super-short deadlines for example.)

Dunno how to improve things besides posting up stuff that I think is up to par, but just thought I'd add my 2 cents. Oh, and bring back Haack!

Just spent less time on these forums and make some music, the people who are gonna just copy everyone won't make it far nor will they have the knowledge to not only produce but to survive in the industry. Failing that, just don't reply to these shitposting threads or make some better threads.

The production forum trap thread disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived and was assimilated in the SNH. It could have become a thread on trap production technique.

people who are knowledgable of more advanced topics should post more about said topics instead of bashing 13 yr olds who wanna make massive growls and complaining. just ignore them and talk about worthwhile information on the threads that matter to real producers imo

If there was a legit Trap Production thread, I'd be all for it...however, if it's just another thread which does nothing but endlessly list YouTube videos of tunes...we have enough of those already.

I really hate to be "that guy", but somebody has to say it. It seems to me that there just many of these type of threads as there are the very threads that your mentioning. The relentless march of progress is going to continue weather people like it or not. I think it's more important now more than ever to focus your energy towards discussions that you feel are worth your time and not bother with the rest of the repeative hum drum round these parts. (Not trying to sound like an asshole) ;-) :W:

What happened?

Dubstep died. So did DSF.

Simple.

The issue is pretty simple. Dubstep is extremely popular. One particular style of the genre has pretty much become mainstream for now. What you see now is an influx of young, in some cases very young, wannabe producers that haven't realized just how hard and how much time this shit takes. The fact this is called "dubstepforum" I think can actually be to blame for some of this. I mean it's just a giant sign that says, "Post all your shit here even if you really don't care about the commitment it takes".

Lets face it. The majority of the complaints here are stemming from someone, who has obviously put almost 0 time into it, asking for shortcuts. Of course it's going to frustrate the people that have been doing this for possibly years. I get it. I've put a lot of time and work into producing and I'm still shit at it. And now this wannabe who's done nothing wants me to just hand them over everything I've learned and worked hard on so they can feel cool? Fuck no!

They aren't all like that though. Most of the people who are make it blatantly obvious. I tend to either ignore those posts or point them to something they can read for themselves. But there are some people that work hard and they just haven't figured it out and just want some fucking help. Is that really a bad thing? Do they really deserve to be mocked and criticized just because they are having a hard time?

I personally don't come here very often anymore, not because of the repeat threads and lack of intuitive discussion, but because every thread seems to turn into a shitfest. Most threads end up turning into some sort of an argument by the second page. To me that's worse than all of the other crap. I don't know what everyone else comes here for, but I don't come here for that. I got better shit I could be doing if that's what every thread is going to turn into.
