Re: How many press/push ups can you do?
Just realised that the number of seconds between sets actually differs as the weeks progress. I dont know where I got rest times of only 30 second from?
Anyway, I tried a few sphinx but couldnt get both arms to work together. My stronger arms rises quicker to support the weaker arm.
Right, im off to do Week 1, Day 1...

like arms flat by your side, palms middle of your torso
or you do em arms spread out further than shoulder width and palms by your shoulders
i duno, i think its just like changing grip when doing bench pressing

Week 1, Day 1 complete.
Out of interest how far down do you go when you do a push up? I go nose to floor and i'm using handles which add about 6 inches elevation. Am I making it hard for myself?
I just tried without the handles and only going down what i would consider half way (arms at 90 degrees) and I was able to do 20 without much difficulty. Only thing harder was the strain on my wrists which is why I like to use the bars.

Re: How many press/push ups can you do?
I think the 90 degree angle is what you should be aiming for. Also, don't lock out your elbows when you go up - you need to make sure you're muscles (not your bones) are holding the weight 100% of the time for maximum gains.faust.dtc wrote:Week 1, Day 1 complete.

Re: How many press/push ups can you do?
Ive got quite big triceps and have a lot of forward pressure so you would think push ups would be a breeze.
I think what makes it tough for me is the 13 stone i'm carrying and my 'oh fuck this' stamina.

Re: How many press/push ups can you do?
Are we talking about straight push ups? As in all in a row? I normally do 4 lots of 30 each night with about 5-10 mins inbetween so i reckon i could do about 35... Maybe 40 in one go.
100 in a row is ridiculous. You really need to be physically active to be able to do that.

Re: How many press/push ups can you do?
Your start with an initial test of how many you can complete consecutively which dictates which column of how many press ups you start with.
For example if you manage 0-5 initially then you follow column 1 which is 2 push ups, 60 second rest, 3, rest, 2, rest, 2, rest, lastly the maximum you can complete (at least 3).
I was in the 6 to 10 category so I had to do 6, 60 second rest, 6, rest, 4, rest, 4, rest, max (at least 5).
On day 2 I have to complete 6, 90 second rest, 8, rest, 6, rest, 6, rest, max (at least 7)
By the last week I should complete 22, 45 second rest, 22, rest, 30, rest, 30, rest, 25, rest, 25, rest, 18, rest, 18, rest, max (at least 55).
Then the final test which is trying to complete 100 without stopping. :-S

Re: How many press/push ups can you do?
15 and just thought 100 was impossible. I remember doing 50 at a time years ago and thought this would be easy. God I'm lazy.
Re: How many press/push ups can you do?
Could probably do about 40 in a row with those handles, I bring myself down so my nose is level with the bar. That's an absolute maximum, I'd have to rest for ages after that.
Am I being silly, or do those work your triceps quite a lot too? Compared to a standard push up, looks a bit like the relationship between a standard bench press and a close grip bench press.Ferryman wrote:You should try Sphinx Push-ups. They are fucking hard.
