now I'm fucking pathetic, can barely do 30-40.

It's amazing how fast the body declines when not being pushed.....
This is why I don't stop going to the gym any more. The easiest thing to convince yourself not to do

I find if I don't go for say, 2 weeks, I've dropped at least 2 lots of weight down on every machine/lift. Can't imagine what I'd be like after a year.

I need to get fit again tbh, I'm starting to feel like shit from a lack of exercise. It's just motivating myself to go through the horrible pain that the first couple of sessions cause :)

You'd be amazed how quickly you get it back though. Never underestimate the power of your muscle memory. I used to go the gym 6 days a week (sometimes 7) for about 18 months, then I stopped for 4 and a half years. I started going again about 3 months ago and was lifting about 70-75% of what I used to, the first few sessions resulted in slow recovery time and a couple of sore days after but now I'm pretty much bang on what I used to lift, maybe a little more on some things.

I started a new program about 6/7 weeks ago (trying to add a bit of weight/just get stronger for american football trials around october) and I'm seeing really good gains. When I started I literally couldn't do a single wide grip pull up, now I do 3 sets of max reps (usually about 4 or 5). It's when you consider things like that, it gives you the motivation to continue.

Yeah wide grip pull ups are solid. Can't do any - still. Saying that, as 90kg / 14 stone I'm pretty weighty. Give it another month or 2... :)

That's not too bad.

On a side note - just had a bit of a chuckle to myself at the thought / image of this thread making people spontaneously burst into push ups in their rooms.

Ah yeah, you've got about 15kg on me! They're pretty much the only thing I push myself to the absolute limit, like, until my muscles just give out. I guess it's because I'm not holding something heavy over my head/face.

Starting a program like this is going to be a new learning experience for me. Ive trained in martial arts about twice a week for about the last 4-5 years so have strong triceps, deltoids and lats but have never had to rely on strength and have never been one for weights or push ups and sit ups etc so found the position awkward and alien. Thought it wouldnt hurt to give it a try though.

I could probablyh do about 50 pressups without stopping, used to be able to do 20+ pullups until my bar broke. Now id struggle to do five most likely.

it's a good measure though, if you're pushing yourself to the limit. From zero to 3 sets of 5 is pretty good progress in a short amount of time.

Also, are we talking overhand grip or underhand? I always go for overhand - when I can do those I'll be happy. I can do underhand narrow grip ones OK but not loads... it's the overs that are hard and I'm having no joy with.

Overhand for wide grip, underhand for standard.

I went to a seminar once and saw a guy do one fingered push ups on a coconut.

I was impressed but fuck knows what the coconut was for.

Yeah. To give you an idea of how seriously it's taken, this team is in the top division of the country (it's only amateur), and they're asking if I know anybody else that would be interested in coming along

I'm gonna go for wide receiver. Played as a winger at Rugby for 5/6 years when I was younger, I'm pretty fast, think I'm pretty good at catching, got a decent jump and I'm not ridiculously hench enough to play anywhere else.

Yeah that's what I thought. And thinking about it, overhand narrow would be tricky as fuck with the way the body is built.... as would underhand wide. :corntard:
