yea the problem with those numbers being some are attached to WoW subs etc
i wish there was actual ways to get numbers besides boxed retail these days, i know it's high selling, but i honestly think some of the numbers are fudged as they list it as number of people who played total including those guest passes instead of just sales

are you serious? items are all about numbers, just get the highest amout of +vit and +[class attribute] you can get, on armor just get the highset amount of armor and resistance. no unique modifiers like in diablo 2, like x% chance to cast y on strike, reanimate as _______, fires explosive arrows, etc... In d3, yellows and even sometimes blues were better than "legendaries" not sure if they still are, but i doubt blizz changed much other than increasing the numbers on 'em.

the only casuals i see are ones defending d3 as a good purchase, it's a broken game that they're still trying to fix
they had to add the paragon system because the itemization sucked

All rpg ystems are broken in some shape form or fashion

Even dnd is broken and has always been

Its not like diablo2 wasn't fuck all broken and unbalanced

but it was enjoyable and still has a strong player base to this day (same with DnD)
d3 is already seeing a thinning out of it's player numbers (and amount of time those still playing sink into it) as tracked by xfire and gametrics in it's current state it just doesn't have the longevity like the previous titles
it recently got a quick infusion from the latest patch, but it's already back on the down swing it has been the last few months
unless diablo 3 has an expansion like LoD and fixes the issues the community keep bringing up i doubt we'll be hearing much more about it even this year

just the fan ratings on sites like metacritic or even amazon show how disappointed people have been

Diablo 3 will have free and paid content expansion.... like all things blizzard

And metacritic is lols... we got a 4.4 user score on me3 with a 90% on critics

yet some companies base their bonuses on metacritic rating
i'm always more leaning towards user metrics than critics who are dependent of exclusive content from the same companies they "fairly rate", especially since some of these companies have pulled advertising when they get issued a bad review
heh then why is there a widespread usage of the term biodrone (ME3 is another franchise that managed to piss off the fans)
EA is almost done chewing them up and shitting them out like some many other good devs beforehand

that says more about the bush league status of some studios. The only team I know of that used metacritic was bioshocks team and they lost literally everyone of value over it. Paying people based on a system that A) Can be financially manipulated and B) that has no authentication process of any type is just crazy.

Again I'll bring up my time at bioware. People can say they were unhappy with ME3. So you look at raw sales. Raw sales = very fucking good. Then you look at online trackers with xbl, origin, etc. Retention = good. Then you look at gamestop figures and resell. Resell numbers low. Then you look at save data. How many are unique players? how many are repeat? How many players first played ME3, then bought ME1 and ME2 to get full play of ME3? Tons. Then you look at expansions, ROI, etc. Then and only then do you look at metacritic and say does this support or go against the numbers we show. Numbers don't lie. People do.

I'm really glad I'm out of the gaming industry at the moment TBH. I do shit on my own now and don't have to listen to people say things as fact when I know they're full of shit but I can't say anything because of my job. So many fans are just blatantly fucking angry and frustrated gamers. 90% of gamers think they could make a better game "if only they had the breaks the devs did". Which is simply horseshit. The gaming industry has some of the most underpaid workers per ROI in any industry. $80k for a senior developer on a game that makes 9 figures is just fucking laughable. But hey that dude works his 75 hours a week with a smile cause its what he does.

Much like any art, if you pander to your customer you're simply churning out a product. And yeah you give them what they want but doesnt it cease to be art and simply become a product? A formula?

the issue comes from the rush publishers put on the devs, and a substandard product gets delivered, that and pandering to critics rather than the actual gamers
