@Z-Axis: Yeah the drop could use some cymbal crashes and some more overall intensity, perhaps a change in the type of snare hits / kicks to make it fuller. As it stands, the build-up overpowers the drop by a long shot. With that said, I think the idea could work, it just needs more spicing up in the way of drum programming, incidental hits, sweeps, harmonies, etc. Also, some of the elements, most notably the snare, are being hidden under your midrange bass sound, so I think you could do some EQ cuts / sidechaining to remedy that. Again, as a starting framework for a track, I definitely think it could work. I just think you need to add some more layers to your sounds and overall composition to really polish it up. Glitch the hell out of it man! :W:

@DotCurrency: Idk if it's just my headphones, but I think your sub might be a little too loud -- it's kinda drowning out the percussion work, which is unfortunate cuz you've got some cool percussion programming in this track! I really like the tom hits and your cymbal crashes. I'd add some more reverb / delays to the vocal snippets to help them propagate throughout the track, at least at certain points (maybe not on every vocal hit). Your snare sounds good, and the reverse hits are a nice touch for sure. The kick sounds a little flat though, but this may just be due to the sub drowning it out. The drop at 1:22 is really well done, but I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the cymbal hits on every downbeat that follows. I think you could achieve a similar (and more fluid) sense of movement with some sharp closed hi-hat hits running on 32nd notes, if that makes sense. Overall, a solid WIP. Excited to see what you start putting out with your new setup! :)

@Gaol: Digging the melodies at the start and the harmonies that come in. You've got some cool overlapping parts. The drop is a little weak compared to the buildup, I feel. I think you could use some cymbal crashes and different percussive elements to give it some more weight (as I suggested to Z-Axis). I also think with this many synth / midrange elements going on, you either need to give something some stereo width to make space for your mono elements (aka your kick and snare) or sidechain some stuff (probably your heavy bass) to the kick / snare. As of right now, your drums are getting a little lost in the mix. I think you've got the part-writing portion of the track pretty well down, so now I just think you need to go in a fine-tune the mixdown / add some spice to the overall mix.

@Burgeamon: The vocals sound a little too upfront in the mix. The levels are fine, but I think you could use some more reverb on your vox, just slightly. I'd also try duplicating the vocal track and either pitching it down or up and panning that track to one side or the other. This will help give your vocals more depth and feel. You could do this multiple times so that at certain parts the vocals seem more powerful and full than others. Also, during the drop, I think some of those small vocal hits ("uh," "oh," etc) could be panned to either side, just to change it up a bit. The drop is sweet! Your drums and synths sound great! I wouldn't change too much about those. Love the overall vibe of this track -- definitely makes me want to get up and go crazy hahah. The melodies are great too. Didn't mean to be overly critical, but I think if you just spice up the vocals a bit, this will be a SUPER solid track. Good job, man.

Here's mine....

@almostkate100: Really nice kick and snare. really nice use of samples too. The kick and snare seem a bit loud compared to everything else going on and I feel like it could use some more glitchy percussion. Defenitely the most interesting (in a good way) track I've seen up here in a while.

@ z-axis: The melody isn't bad, but the drop is a bit haphazard, and the intro overpowers the rest of the track. You're sort of lead on to expect this kill the noise-esque sound and it sounds a bit weak compared to the intro. I would defenitly replace that kick with something with more punch and low end. Introduce some variation into those hats because they start to sound a bit drab after a while. I'd also look for a more powerful snare. Keep working on it and you could have something here.

@darkdubz: massive tune right here. I love that percussion. I like the pad, but it does sort of sound like it just randomly comes into the mix and then sort overpowers the rest. You might add some more occasional sounds in there, but it's already a really good track. Nice work!

Here's my newest. I made an attempt at some 105ish type stuff and this is what came out. Let me know what you all think.

@darkdubz: wowww famm, that intro feels like some kromestar flaree on it, nice sway n swing
the groove is nice,, the sample fits deep into the frequencies , and the bass is well mastered, maybe bring it to front a lil moree.. but this track is tasty hahaha
maybe some more versatility on the percussion section and thatts it .. big upp bruvv..
:)
man why do I even bother... Because I love it .. music life, music passion, music soul.

Slightly updated version of my WIP. Please give me an idea of what this track needs as far as mixing.

@Ocelots Revolver: Love your name by the way haha. The synths are kind of flat after the drop the vocals seem a bit loud for the track. If you brought down the vocals the mix as a whole would sound better. Other than that I think you have an awesome track coming along.

@cmgoodman1226: I like the vibe from the beginning. Very chilled and relaxed. I could definitely smoke a bowl to this haha. I like all of the little subtle things going on through the track, like the little clicks and what sound like distorted shakers haha im not sure what they are. Great track man.

@almostskate100: That kick is heavy haha. Maybe a tiny bit heavy. You and cmgoodman have this ambient stuff down man. I love it. I love those watery samples. They kind of bring the track together. Melodic water haha.

This is an update of my latest wip. I added in a lot I think. I cant really remember. I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday so this song has been the product of vicoden and lack of sleep. Soundcloud

first post here, so before dropping my own stuff I thought it would be better to start with some feedback:

The Z-Axis: Loving the vocal sample in your poverty track it gives a real nice dub feeling to it
Mthrfnk: totally love that track, love the summer vibes too it, can imagine hearing this early morning when the sun is coming up
darkdubz: everything about this track has been said, really nice dark. the sample before the drop kills it.
cmgoodman1226: nice laidback vibes, would like to hear some vocals over this, I think it would work great with some small vocal samples in the background. I do a miss some change in the sound, it keeps going on for too long. I think some extra melody in the song would make it even better.

now on to my own track. started producing abount 8 months ago so i'm really learning a lot by every track, but I don't get good feedback on the music I make.
So here we go.
things i'm not happy with: the sound of my mid-range, the 'wobble' from 1.10+
stuff i'm kinda happy with: the percussion the kick/snare.

thanks in advance for the negative and hopefully positive feedback.

@wewuk - Some nice subbass going on in there, could do with a melody and is a bit repetative. other than that its a pretty good, i could imagine it being used in a film/tv score.

@Goal, nice feeling to this, nice vocal samples too, really like them. You should maybe try layering another synth on top.Nice variation and obviosly put a bit of time in, Hope your feeling better after having your teeth ripped out. :D

@Ancelots revolver, really like your breaks, is that all with anarpigiator or did your write it?? sounds awesome. top track :D

I've been working on this wip this afternoon (mixed down using the cans ((Bloody Neigbours lol), still needs tweeking but i'm pretty happy with my progress with synth manipulation, what do you guys think? Any critical comments would be most grateful....

p.s. no that is not a Skrillex patch (The modulated beeping sound) Does sound rather like Rough neck though, doesn't it lol

@vader340mk2: I hate when no one listens to my tracks so ill take a listen to yours. The intro sound might be little too distorted. The build up is cool. I feel like there might be a little too much going on. Try Bringing one or two sounds forward instead of all of them together. The structure is cool. Try having one of the drops be a little different, the song gets a little repetitive towards the end.

Sounds strangely happy. I really like it actually. Just work on the mixdown I guess, and some of the percussion samples sound a bit too messy.

Gaol
Awesome tune...way too high-heavy.

cmgoodman1226
Sounds playful. Loving this track alot actually. I can't fault it.

Did this in 4 minutes. Really liking the sound of it. There are mistakes because I recorded directly into edison, no MIDI. Drums are currently just a pitched-down drum break

Feedback:
@jrisreal: For 4 minutes, this is great. The drums definitely need switching out. Some swooshy pads would also be great. One idea for the middle of the track as a sort of breakdown- reverse the piano recording for like 16bars and cut everything else and then drop back into it with drums & bass.
@Gaol Good ideas on the intro but at times the high synth is a little piercing. In the main body, the noisy synth (saw based one) is too noisy for want of a better description. The drop kinda comes out of nowhere but the basses sound okay. Altogether the track needs pulling together a bit - not everything is gelling well enough and you need to keep the energy flowing. Tbh I'd change/replace the kick too - sounds a little weird at times.
@Vader340mk2: Imo the intro synth is too distorted. Overall it reminds me of the prodigy for some reason. Like Gaol said I'd try and cut back on everything and bring it in gradually. Try and improve the mix too - at points the drums get lost and some synths sound too loud.
@wewuk: Nice intro, I'd try and bring out the bassy synth more - either by saturation or layering, it sounds too flat. Good ideas in the track but I think it needs more, maybe add some more pads or a background melody on strings/piano.

Heres a preview of a new track I've been messing with, my first 140bpm track in like a year:

@Goal & mthrfnk - Thanks for the feedback, yeah i agree the distortion was way too much and it did need a bit of variation. Its amazing how awesome distortion sounds when your stonned. I tried to mix it down again but its proving difficult with neigbours etc.

I don't know what else to do with this track now so i'll probably move on as it aint all that.

Cheers :D

It's great! I love how the kick sounds muffled and I also like the shuffling hi hat sequencing! Great work as always! You never give anyone anything to complain about. :W:

jrisreal
I really do like the drum sample. I'm sure you can tell, but it just needs to be sampled better so it loops perfectly. Is the piano a sample or did you improvise? It's pretty good and fits the drum sample extremely well! I'm curious to see where you plan to take this.

Vader340mk2
The drop came on really strong! I don't like the intro synth. Try using a distorted guitar VST, thats what I would do. Other than that, it's really good. I think it's lacking sub-bass when the bass drops by the way. Fix up the break at 1.23, put in a tom fill or some oneshot vocals. It'll do the track good!

Gaol
*I listened to the minor updated track, not the original* I don't like the alien-ish synth that comes in at 0.45 It's probably just my ears, but it bothers me. Regardless, solid WIP! When the bass drops, I feel like you're overusing the bubbly synth, judging by how often it comes up.

Here's my WIP. I kind of cut it short, I spent a few hours on it last night and finished it up quickly so I could get some needed sleep.
Apologizes for the long intro and short bass section.
Edit: And it seems that soundcloud made the bass a lot "weaker" sounding.

If I was you, would change the snare as it sounds kinda out-of-place. But that's just me. Relaxing stuff, pretty uplifting.

mthrfhk

Good synth work. Not feeling the drums. Could do with a more 2-steppy beat, maybe. Whatever you want.

jrisreal

GOOD AS FUCK. Simple. Reaallyy feeling the beat, the piano is spot on.

Vader340mk2

The synths sound pretty weird to me. Heavy hitting beat though, like the hi-hat work over there. Good though. Like the jungle break at 1:30.

Now here's my dubstep work over an another alias, maybe purple, maybe not.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.

I just realised that i can not load this song on FL now as i've just updated to massive 1.3. lost my patches for the bass and glitch noise now :(

I don't think there's any way arround it as i didn't even save the patches i made, just saved the song instead

Unless there's something i don't know about??

Here's mine that I'm still working on. I took a lot of advice from you guys. so far here's what's turned out. still working on how I'm going to do the filthy drop part but I now have a better intro and what not.

more feedback to make it sound less-gay carnival like might be appreciated. :D my ending is still unfinished by the way so don't worry about that piece in particular.

sorry it took me so long to repost! sleepless nights since then. still waiting on a finish of DL's from EWQL so I can drop in some orchestral or nice piano parts/Put in some nice ambience. And I need another better snare sample. So if anyone can point me to something they think would be nice. I would be very grateful for it

Changes: Compression & lots of EQ added. Sub bass lowered in chords for warmth to around C3-C2. Complete change in intro. Switched up parts...Uh, no ducking yet as there's no ambient part yet.

Soundcloud

Oh and I did promise feedback again from my perspective so let me go back through and listen again to the new progression stuff.

ANd now for feedback

@jrisreal: I really love the real sample/nice sample of the piano. It's strong and definately much better than your normal synth'y piano. However as you know by now your drums are off and there are off notes that are apparent. It will need some re-recording. It's a great backbone though! I'd assume you already have plans for ambience in the background as well as some mix up's on your drums so I won't get into that. Be sure to fix those off notes though! They throw us off.

@Gaol Think about the direction you want your song to head and try a bit more to dig with thoroughness.

@Vader340mk2: Imo the intro synth is too distorted. Overall it reminds me of the prodigy for some reason. Like Gaol said I'd try and cut back on everything and bring it in gradually. Try and improve the mix too - at points the drums get lost and some synths sound too loud. <

@wewuk: Nice intro, I'd try and bring out the bassy synth more - either by saturation or layering, it sounds too flat. Good ideas in the track but I think it needs more, maybe add some more pads or a background melody on strings/piano. <

I don't want to seem lazy but repeating what is already written on these two tracks would be pointless so. I'll simply say, I agree (look for <)

@Smor3 I do love the new change up to it! Unless you want to go gritty with the main synth, then lower the high pitch sounding synth in the background. However that synth you got that's deep in the background is just a litttle too gritty. Try lightening it down a tiny tiny bit ;-) Vocals are a tiny bit out of place, try a bit of reverb or in your DAW look for the "Vocal EQ" function if you have one. Then modify it from that preset. Loving the ambient jungle sounding noises, animal wise. Reminds me of another track very upbeat.

Other than those things, track is flowing well and coming together.
