US Online Stores?
US Online Stores?
A lot of stuff I buy off Chemical/Redeye etc is from Europe, but a lot is from the US too
so it always has that US IMPORT tag on it, and I guess I end up paying more money to get shipped to Europe (which is lame because I live in America...)
point is, are there any US based online stores (like Redeye/Chemical/Boomkat/Bleep etc...) that sell chicago/detroit house and that sort?
I know there is a big record shop thread somewhere but I can never find it.

Re: US Online Stores?
it is crazy, i know. all the sellers i know of over here use the european pricing plus markup and they still gouge you on shipping.
the only 2 i know that are sane are http://www.omarsdetroit.us and http://wildkyleoats.com/store.html
Great example: i bought this http://www.redeyerecords.co.uk/asp/view ... p?id=30659 and there was no VAT and shipping was about £1 because i had bought a few others with it. gramaphone in chicago has it http://webstore.gramaphonerecords.com/a ... mixes.aspx costing $6 more with the cheapest shipping option at $5.
overall cost from redeye was ~$10.50. overall cost at gramaphone would be ~$21. for a fucking single. plus, i know redeye only sends unplayed. some of these places ship shop-floor copies that have been manhandled by the locals.
only downside is longer wait, really. redeye is fucking speedy though. ive gotten orders shipped over to the east coast in less than a week. thats better than most discogs sellers.

Re: US Online Stores?
hmm i guess ill just keep using the uk sellers then... kind of strange
Re: US Online Stores?
im pretty sure it has to do with exchange rates, shipping costs, and volume moved. dollar is not too good last i checked. the atlantic is kinda big. and not many people buy records pressed in the UK over here.
Re: US Online Stores?
well i dont mind buying records from europe on uk sites
but what kills me is the records pressed in the US that I cant find anywhere but redeye/chemical

Re: US Online Stores?
also, smaller labels might sell on discogs if they don't have a website/webstore. Echospace [detroit] used to do a lot of direct sales on discogs at crazy prices. they posted up a lot of OOP stuff for release pricing.
amoeba offers free shipping from their website and they get a bit of the domestic house pressings.
if you have a local shop, maybe drop them a list of what you're wanting and they might be able to special order it even if it's not a genre they typically stock.

i think redeye is the way to go. occasional you can pick up a more popular release from amoeba with free shipping, for example i got gonzales' solo piano ii for $17 and free shipping the other day.

Also, check to see if the label uses Big Cartel. I know of a few (not dubstep) like Non Projects and Friends of Friends, and that shi is way convenient

Re: US Online Stores?
Amoeba is one of the biggest if not the biggest independent record store in America.
Also:
dopejams,
turntablelab,
crosstalknyc,
all day records,
a1 records,
Do some googling and you'll find something, you know?

Re: US Online Stores?
what labels are u lookin for specifically? cuz on the halcyon site they've featured some nyc-based records (not super interesting ones, however) that don't seem unreasonably priced. their shipping also runs $5 domestic for up to 5 records if I remember correctly, which would be a really great deal if you were just getting US-based records.
