@wewuk: Very atmospheric and spooky.. Sounds really industrial, or urban.. I could see this, as a track for that mod, DayZ, or in a Zombie movie ^__^

Here is my updated WIP (yet again) I added a pause break, right before the lead bassline, but I might extend the pause a bit more, cause it transitions a bit to soon, aye?

Okay, heres a song ive been working on, some kind of house tune I guess. But im really braindead and dont know if this sounds good or not, probably sounds like shit. So tell me what you think, be as honest as you can.

ps. seems like soundcloud made it a bit muddy
@BOMAN: That could work.. I can envision some vocals in that track.. Some nice clean vocals, with some side chained pumpy kicks, for a lead :3

And, ya, I have that issue, it seems SoundCloud makes my Reverb like pop out O_o

I like the intro a lot! Sounds great in my ATH M-50 headphones. I'd say make the kick a VERY little more subbyish. It's punchy for sure, but needs a little sub imo. What kind of vocals are those? Where'd you get them? They're nice, it makes the track sound trancy.

wewuk
Just started listening and already liking the atmospheric intro. The wind sound in the background is a super nice touch. I'd say add a bit a delay to those hats for sure and some reverb on the snare. Very good WIP so far!

Ficticious
Absolutely hate the bubbly sound. It's way too loud! (Bass wise). It comes out of my subwoofer way to strong. Other than that, it has a kind of spooky/jolly/bouncy vibe to it. It's hard to explain, but I do like it. Just hate that bubbly synth in the beginning. Don't over do the shakers however. I do like the cymbal, reminds me of a twisted circus (mainly because of those creepy pads)

Just whipped this up in about 30 minutes. I'm sure they're plenty o' errors, but I tried my best to be as quick and precise as possible. I'll be reposting this track soon, my lady friend is going to do some vocals over the intro and breakdown :6:
Not too sure, but it may get repetitive..

This is the original video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc-YMUWvA1s

I know the artist, so he sent me stems..

Like dude, I know.. this is my problem... It sounds good, even on my 8323's, but when I play it on car speakers, or in my living room, on the built in TV speakers, it sounds to subby...

@dotcurrency: Sounds mad good bro! and don't think it sounds repetitive, it's trance, it usually does ^__^ Nice flowing vocals will make that track sound sick! can't wait to hear the final!

thanks for the feedback @dotcurrency
feedback on your track: this is some poppy trance, some vocals over the song would indeed work very nice.
I don't like the crash at 1.55 after the breakdown it's too harsh. maybe turn the volume of it down or eq the high ends a bit.
what I think would be nice for that transition is like a drumm roll, wht the main synth playing 1 long key? other then that this got a nice summer feeling to it.

What do you guys think about this?: https://www.box.com/s/pf16tmc4rb7srpg14i0f (Soundcloud didn't work. You can listen it directly from the link. No download needed)
Was thinking of making it drop after that. How's the mixing? Suggestions?

@dotcurrency: Sounds nice. Mixing sounds pretty okay, except that melody when it comes back at 1.57 or so, it has some piercing he freqs or its just too loud compared to the rest of the mix. :)
@ jimbeaux: Haha that gucci wip sounds good, reminds of a intro of some mixtape of something like that :D
@ wewuk: Really atmospheric! Mixing sounds nice and i really like those percussive sounds you have there !

Here's something i've been working lately, haven't done the intro yet so its basically the drop and break and second drop. Any mixing tips and ideas for the intro are welcome :) Plus theres some sounds that i haven't eq'd yet since im trying things out and then eq them etc. Only limiter slapped to master channel

@dotcurrency, all of the sounds are good, and the melody is catchy, but its a bit unoriginal imo. with my volume up all the way some of the sounds can peirce a bit too much as well.

@maza1, the song itself has a decent structure, the drums seem a bit too punchy, and when it drops i would leave out the lead over the top, it seems to conflict with the bassline a bit.

@wewuk, song has a pretty deep atmosphere, i can dig it for sure. i would tighten up everything a little bit so you can distinguish the sounds a bit more. progression is nice as well.

this is my newest WiP, and i decided to break out of a lot of habits i have when making a song, so inform me of my flaws please. =P

@Eye-siC - Nice intro, I like the melody a lot. The way you bring stuff in is nice too. everything sounds quite good in the mix. Drop sounding good - although I wouldn't do the teaser drop - I'd cut that little section out, it kind of breaks up the intro and drop too much and the track feels a little empty during that stage. Nice work man.
@MaZa1 - Not too sure about the drums, sounding a little too compressed, also try and vary up the patterns. The build up is a little weird. At the drop the mids are totally drowned by the sub and drums on my system. Work on the mix for sure :W:
@dotcurrency - Definitely recognise the melody lol... anyways, sounding good, nice intro and build. At the bit where the plucks come in, I'd make them a little snappier and filter in some delay as the song progresses - vary it up a little. Good melodies but starts to get too predictable - work on maybe having a lead fitler in up to your breakdown. Overall nice sounds.

First bounce of what I've done so farfor the Skrillex remix comp, any ideas at all would be great :)

wewuk- dark/gloom vibe. solid use of space, sounds like a cave. the EQ is sounding good too.
dotcurrency-nice synths. the chord progression reminds me of trending pop-styles. 1:55 that wah-wah sfx is sick.
MaZa1- heavy tek style. the atmosphere is dark & gritty. it sounds very acid/tek/ psy-trance to me. the kick is rather huge

@saucedub: I like the percussion work a lot. I'm not really a huge fan of the snare that you chose to use, but that's just personal preference. I find it a little harsh hitting compared to the relaxed tone of the rest of your composition. If you do decide to keep that specific sample, I'd maybe still vary it up a bit so that every snare hit isn't exactly the same. The melodic work is pretty interesting too. I really like how the synth swells like that, especially how it lands on the off-beats. I think you could maybe use a little more sub bass, but perhaps that's just my headphones. I'd also like to hear some more elements panned to the right, since the synth is panned almost all the way to the left, and your percussive elements are all panned pretty dead center.

@mthrfnk: I really like the intro, how it has the lower frequencies cut out. The reggae vibe is pretty sweet there too. I was kinda disappointed to see that only last for the first couple seconds of the track. With that said, I think the track is pretty successful so far. The melodies/harmonies are cool, and the powerful synth is cool. I think the snare could be a little louder. The fade out at the end is really well done, especially with the delayed vocal samples. One thing you could try would be to gate your huge synth sounds at certain points to create a sort of stutter effect on the whole track. Don't know if that makes sense haha.

@Eye-siC: The intro is really well done...super dark and deep sounding. The fade out at 0:50 is a nice touch. I think the percussion could be a little more intense at the drop though, just to give it some more movement - like a faster / more varied hi hat pattern, more crashes, different percussive elements from the intro altogether, etc. The midrange bass sound during the main section sounds pretty solid, as does the sub bass. I would also try adding some reverb to your snare hits maybe at the end of each 8 bar phrase or something, just to vary it up a little more. I also think you could fill out the space a little better if you threw in a few heavily reverbed "glitches" or percussive hits every once in a while.

@ maza1
love those gloomy vibes during the break, with this kind of more 'harder dubstep' I like the midd range melody after the break to be a bit different compared to pre-break. imo you make the main synth come back too early and don't have enough of the sounds you have at around 0.44, maybe make the percussion a bit more clear at around 20 sec? I just love percussion :D maybe make the drop come a 0.5/1 sec later gives a bit more tension.

@eye-siC
agreeing with mthrfnk here, don't do the teaser, it's just kinda naw, not feeling it. love the melody, don't like the sound snarish sound at 1.35+ it's sounds off, too thight and not in the mix since the rest of the song has loads of reverb. and it sounds rythm wise just off, not feeling that either. Good use of crashes, I def got to learn how to properly implement those too. love the reverb on the clap. the 'wah wah'is nice and subtle. gives it a nice dungeon vibe too it. also love how you have that melody slightly in the background after 1.50

@mthrfnk . feeling the vocal sample, but got the feeling that the synth is drowning in the rest of the mix during the break cause it all sounds so huge. maybe do the second drop with vocals only? would like a bit more tension building there. I hear some percussion after the second drop but it is once again being drowned by the rest of the sounds.

@saucedub
sound nice, like the dubby vibes to it. I miss a kind of build up, i'm expecting a drop all the time but it's just not coming, I like the main wah wah synth, for the first 53 sec, after that it's a bit boring. and when it comes it's just not what I expected somehow. love the vocal sample, love what you do with the synth at the last bit of the song.can be me, but i'm also missing a bit of sub? the kick sounds a bit hollow. got some good ideas in this song def should work with this.

@almostskate100, love the intro, love the 'raindrops' sounds. the glitchy sounds are a real nice addition. somehow the rythm of the bass/kick is not to my tasting, just sounds off. but damn I just love the percussion/small sounds of the track. it gives the song a real intimate feeling.

so i've worked out the track. stuff i'm not happy about atm:
the second drop still needs work, need to work on the percussion there. 1 of the melody lines is too soft atm need to crank that up.
I would def feel general feedback and feedback on the second part of the song, are you guys feeling the up tempo part of it, and how is the rythm of the percussion.

I finally got something going again from my old tune. Still working on it. Any criticism appreciated.

Some really good tunes out here!

@dotcurrency, Well it's catchy, I'll give you that. But the loudness kind of overpowers your song. Can't really place it, just seems off

@ maza1
- I'll get to you tomorrow.

@mthrfnk . Vocal is great! Sound or EQ could use a bit of work. Make sure that nothing is muddy when making your song man, other than that it's cool

@saucedub It's going places but somehow it seems incomplete. I can't quite place it though, wish I had something better to say, I'll have to relisten when it's not 4am in the morning and see what I can pull up.

@almostskate100, I'm going to say that it sounds good as a whole, but it's missing some things, also check your song and make sure your stuff isn't so off. Makes the ears get worn out quickly. If it's your placing, zoom in all the way and make sure they line up. If not, try to change up your drum beat a little more to match the song.

@eye-sic Dig the melody, but I don't dig the background bassline so much. It seems bland. Maybe add something at the start of the 3rd bar. Also drop the teaser. I agree with both of them on that. It takes away from the quick catch to the song. If it seems too short keep hammering away at it :Q:

hello all! Nicky here aka T_Thrust

would like to see what you think of this WIP! Been a ghost here for some time. I'm trying to figure out how to make this kind of music & would like some feedback. Figured you were the people to ask...

I've been producing various forms of electronic music for about 8 or 9 years (never anything super serious or commercial though, mainly just hobbyism... spend most of my time in a metal band), starting with FL back at version 3, then Reason, now Logic since around 2008 (or PT on occasion).

here is the tune so far:

cheers!

Ficticious- Good flow thoroughout. The ending falling apart at the end rubbed me the wrong way, but other than that its solid.

wewuk- Its pretty bland, IMO. Sounds a little empty. The percussion and ambient sounds are really well done, but it's definetely missing something.

almostskate100- The glitches throw off the rhythm occasionally, which makes it hard to vibe to. The moments where everything is working are golden though.

Here's my WIP, It was originally going to be my brostep entry, but I started playing around with it and decided to go a different way.
Thanks!
