Re: Joker Masterclass
Ok, useless was too strong.
I just found the Reso Masterclass to be quite inspiring.
There's another one but I can't remember who it was.
Dude just sat there smoking a J and making foot tapping beats.
You'll know the one Wub.
Edit - found it.

Re: Joker Masterclass
Key word for these Masterclasses IMO.Electric_Head wrote:Ok, useless was too strong.

El-B masterclass
If you're setting out to make a carbon copy of a tune after watching [producer] go through the patch design/arrangement for [big tune], then fair enough. But for me, it's about watching someone else's workflow, getting ideas, different approaches to things that I never considered before.
Case in point, the Avincii (sp?) CM Masterclass where he's used FLStudio. I've been using FL in one form or another pretty much since 2002/03, so was very stuck in my ways on how to use the arrangement window. Watched the CM video, saw a different way of doing things, gave it a try...wasn't for me, but it was something that inspired me enough to go and see if it might have been.
Re: Joker Masterclass
Nah I agree they are fairly useless and very repetitive, but it's just interesting to see people work.Electric_Head wrote:Ok, useless was too strong.

El-B masterclass
Obviously these videos will be more useful to someone brand new to making music, but much of it will go over their head as there's not a lot of explaining going on and sometimes quite poor video/audio.
The El-B one is probably my fave actually just because of how he goes off on stoned tangents lol.
If you want to check out some more advanced ones that are actual course type things I'd recommend to check out Digital Labz which are far more useful imo, the one with Henry Bainbridge comes to mind as he is the head over @ the DubStudio mastering & cutting house in Bristol which I have used before and they do great work.
Re: Joker Masterclass
So let me get this straight, nobody other than myself enjoyed the Alix Perez, or even the bonobo masterclasses?
Re: Joker Masterclass
Alix Perez one was cool, I think mostly because it showed something that hadn't been showed much before - him recording and using odd percussions. The Sabre one also as he went into emulating an orchestra instead of just making reeses or something. I also really like the Claude von Stroke one, I've watched it like 4 times because that guy is really funny.
Didn't see Bonobo, dunno who that is but I'll check it out if it's on YT.

Re: Joker Masterclass
Sabre's one too, that's the one I was trying to remember, weird sample sources too.
Re: Joker Masterclass
Got both the Joker and Komonazmuk masterclasses here. Kind of cool that Joker seems to be getting his sounds randomly and accidentally, while Komonazmuk is all about sound engineering. I liked the Komonazmuk masterclass much better.

Komonazmuk and Bonobo ones are my favourite. Komonazmuk is the most informative by far, wish there was more like that one.
Re: Joker Masterclass
yeah these masterclass vids should just be looked at as standard interviews but with the artist in question working at their DAW. they just give you a broad overview of how they work. I think people just get a little confused by the masterclass label and automatically assume that the vids are going to be a technical learning experience.
ps that el-b one is proper dope. I love watching it.
