Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
What plugin are we talking here? Most plugins you have to actually assign the velocity to the volume.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
if your talking about a drum rack, go to each pads "simpler" and slide the velocity slider up to 100% (far bottom right). It defaults at 0%.Perej wrote:Alright. I can't change the velocity of midi hits.... I mean.. it lets me change them but there's no effect on playback. Even if I move all the little icons the velocity doesnt change... wtf?

Nah I mean when putting in hits in a midi clip, there are those little things at the bottom below the grid that let you manually change the velocity of each hit. When I change them there's no difference in the sound...RandoRando wrote:if your talking about a drum rack, go to each pads "simpler" and slide the velocity slider up to 100% (far bottom right). Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
I'm about to lose my mind.
So I have a Drum Rack set up for each piece of drums; Kicks, Snares, Hats, etc.
I have two kicks layered, A softer lower kick and then a higher kick. I want them to both have separate EQing and FX, and then on then on Drum Rack itself have FX to both; gluing them with percussion, reverb, etc.
When the rack is set up, it would be labeled "kick", and pressing the little arrow reveals the two kicks separately.
How in God's name, do I make it so if I drop an effect on a specific kick, the effect does not default back to the rack, and effect both in the end, this is such a simple thing that I should be able to do. I've googled this many times only to get these more complicated work around to this. Is there ANY way to just simply drop separate effects to each drum? Or make it so certain FX only effect one of the drums?
If this isn't possible, this seriously makes drum rack obsolete for me...

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Drop the effect on top of whichever sample you want to affect.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
do what he said then, you need to actually ASSIGN the velocity to the volume. Do what RandoRando said.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Click on the sample you want the velocity to affect so that the sampler is showing(where you change attack, release, etc.) On the right side about 3/4 of the way down the sampler it says velocity. Drag that up to 100% and your hits should be affect by velocity now.Perej wrote:its not a vst it's a drum rackRandoRando wrote:has to be a setting in your vst then

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
as it's already been said. drop the effect on your sample itself. if you look closely you can see that there is an edge around the sampler, you have top drop it before that edge. this way it only effects the chosen sample. if you can't figure it out, let me know i'll make an screenshot of it.sn0wday wrote:I'm about to lose my mind.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread

See how all the samples are separated there? Just drop the effects you want on the individual sections. It's definitely possible without a workaround because I do it literally every time I use a drum rack.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
this thread seems to be the closest thing an ableton thread on this forum, so i thought it would be good if i posted some devices i've made.
first one is a Mid/side EQ processor which uses 2 EQ8s. each has a hi pass control, which is useful for cutting out the low end in the sides.
http://www.mediafire.com/?occ2gh98g29q8rh
the second one is a Stereo splitter. this is for splitting the L and R channels and being able to send them to an audio track for a mono mix of either.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
yeah thats what i've used. its an audio effect rack with 2 chains, each with an eq8. one chain is dedicated to mid, the other to side. I basically used this (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar11/a ... h-0311.htm) as a guide, but tailored it to my needs a bit more. check it when you can to get the idea of itRmoniK wrote:i can't download right now, but you do realize the EQ8 has an inbuilt mid/side EQ right?

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
goodeh, appreciate you making racks and everythin man, but like Rmonik said. EQ8 has built in mid/side, and you can tweak both with one instance of EQ 8, just switching back and forth between the two to edit each one. 2 chains isnt really necessary is all were saying.
Nice one though on the stereo panner. If you have any idea how to emulate FL's "Stereo Shaper" into a rack that would be awesome.

Fl is windows in widows on windows and assign this to that to this to that and routing this to that and this to that, and my favorite part (SARACASN) was when i had to do that 0.8invert thing on the link to controller screen when all i wanted to do was sidechain, yes i know fruity limiter had it built in but i used other compressors.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
cheers, i;m aware of the uses in EQ8 but the device was purely as a convience. there doesnt seem to be a quick easy way of isolating the mid or side with out having to piss about with the eq bands ect etc. so i made it with the intention that with the turn of one knob you could be listening to the mid or side without having to mess around in the eq. as for emulating the stereo shaper, ill have to have a look at that one. i never used when i was using FL so i dont really know what it does, but i got time to play around with itRandoRando wrote:goodeh, appreciate you making racks and everythin man, but like Rmonik said. A better analogy is Ableton is the tits of DAW's and FL is the shits of DAW's.twilitez wrote:Just use FL altogether
