Postal Strikes next 2 wks

Post by randomhed » Wed Jul 25, 2007 4:17 pm

This just got mentioned in the thread about dmz012 and seeing as i work for the Royal Mail i thought it wise to let you know wa gwarn.

This week and next week theres a 3 day strike. Drivers i believe are off tomorow, mail centres are off friday and myself and all postmen are off on saturday. Next weeks days differ i think the postmen are off on thursday. This is going to cause major disruptions to all mail for the next two weeks at least.

So if youre thinking of ordering records you may want to leave it for the next two weeks. If youre desperate for a tune and cant get too your record shop in person, check to see which shop has a different delivery method, such as parcelforce or one of the other parcel delivery companies that will still be operating as per usual. It will cost slightly more by this delivery method but atleast it will get to you in a reasonable time.

Just checked through some of the shops and Juno seems to be the only one that has a courier service. Ill post up any others that i come across.

Edit

Chemical has one aswell.
Htfr has one but double check to see who they use.

Basically anything that gets handled by royal mail will be affected. Anything that is delivered by courier outside of the royal mail group should be fine.

no wonder. Ive had 2 orders from redeye take a longer-than-norm time frame. I was about to email them asking if my billing address was still sound.

But hey I cant complain, workers struggle for the win!

The union is after a payrise of 27% over 5 years, in line with the national average pay.
The company is offering a 2.5% payrise with a dubious share scheme and 5 conditions / changes to our terms of employment.

It could mean the loss of 40,000 jobs and an increased workload for not much more money
