dunno about tribal percs but there are really enough free samples around to build a nearly perfect sample collection in germany we have beat i think its a slidely different version of the computermusic magazine
and they had occasionaly really intense sample packs

For tribal stuff just find some african, asian and south american music and sample the drums and cut them up? That's what i do... Plenty of new age and "world music" CDs filled with the stuff! Go to any charity shop, you'll find some for 50p.

yeah i do this quite a bit, its hard to get exactly what i want though since the recordings i have aint always the best quality or have other instruments interfering with the best bits. i did get some great drums from a Haiti voodoo drum music cd a while back though

feeling the same about standard dance music samples. Vengeance and Thomas Penton sound so hollywood and cheesy. Apart from Goldbaby 909 and 808 I can't find anything that just sounds fat and punchy without being glossy. Gonna take a look at the Hit kit v3 I've heard good things.

Layer some of those punchy, glossy samples you have with some dirty samples you've recorded from say vinyl, or field recordings. I usually do that as I'm not a massive fan of really clean sounds on the whole, but by combining those with some gritty sounds you can sculpt what your after.

So, I've noticed I don't have such a variety with my drums and percussion, and I want to kinda branch out and I need some different samples that would provide non-generic stuff. Like, atm, I only really use the Vengeance Samples, and there's only really the common kicks and snares you hear all the time, and I guess I'm not always aiming for that style. Someone suggested to buy this Dubstep sample pack of Ebay, and it was pretty cheap so I might give that a shot. Does anyone have any other suggestions, free would be awesome(but I'm not even sure if there are many quality free sample packs), and if not, preferably cheap. Obviously there is some processing that would go into getting any of these sounding kicks and percussion, but what I have atm doesn't even get me close. I'll give some example of the different types of kinds of stuff I'm looking for:

Whatever you do, don't download dubstep packs for that sort of percussion.
It's all about layer individual percussion hits, toms, tablas, djembes, darbuka, etc.

freesounds is great, get soundflower and just start recording ridiculous amounts of shit into you're daw and chop it lol

btw there is soo much sidechaining on those flume tracks.. I like it!
