Well of course man, but that way it's formatted so people can find it more easily, professionalism is sometimes important I think :corntard: . That's why it's just a tip. I think I'll google into it a little more actually.

@Nokko - sounds great, but maybe throw in some subs to make it a bit "fuller"

@Bassf4ce - More sub bass, really liking it so far!

@Bassf4ce - Really nice! Maybe clean it up a bit, sounds a bit muddy!

Here's a song i've been working on, some kind of house tune. Be as honest as you can, and tell me what you think about it, something I can do better? Do you think vocals would go along nice with it? Add/remove something?

PS. Seems like soundcloud made it a bit muddy

I have a few unfinished tracks I just uploaded to my soundcloud within the last week--- I would give crits but my shockwave crashed so I'll have to reload my session in just a second--- will edit

EDIT- NOKKO: Liked the hous-ey vibe coming from your tune, it just sounds like it doesn't have enough OOMF to it. You know? Throw some subs in there and it will be bumpin'. ;)

BASSF4CE: I liked your tune, I feel like it had the perfect minimal drums and simple bassline. It reminded me of some old stuff I've done. Throw some more distorted forms of your bass in there, kick up the drum volume, throw a damper on your main bass to give it a grimey-er feel and set it off bro. Haha.

WEWUK: I probably liked your tune overall best, it sounds like you put a little more time and effort into it to get the laidback and mysterious foggy atmosphere dub is loved for. I feel like the only thing you needed was a hypnotic sub or mid bassline to kick in the feel. Good work man!

Here are the few.

Tips on how to improve my song structure/bass/drums would be greatly appreciated... I'm using FL studio so its quite the pain. Lol.

Gonna repost this because I hit the bottom of the last page.

@ BOMAN liking the groove :)

@ cabre FL studio doesnt necessarily have to be a pain

plateau: sounds lovely, but the snare/drumpattern seems to be not really flowing in my opinion. I sounds liek it could work, might need to work on the levels of each individual instrument.

this-isnt-the-eighties: sound decent :) I like the atmosphere in this one

monster-keys: I like the drums on thisone :) Synths are pretty nice too and the bass is cool. I thinks this is my favorite from the three :)

@ Nokko Sounds like progressive from the beginning, lol and that is a good thing later it evolves into something that sounds like complexro. The second/ main melody that comes in I am not really a fan of. To be honest the midrange bass/melody sounds really awful and it ruins the track completely. Those intro stabs make the potential of the track I think; the idea for the melody is cool, but the execution not so, lol.

@ nanocloud the start sounds jumpy and thats cool. The melody is cool to, but not really energetic i think. When the chorus comes in it sounds cool. Pretty cool track :)

@ Muon very cool atmosphere on this one in my opinion. The bass is so so, nothing extraordinary, but it does the job. Nice track you got here. The second buildup is cool too.

Soundcloud

requesting some feedback on thisone. To me it seems like the waveform is showing that the parts with the bass are is NOT really pumping... Might have to look at that. I do think the tracks needs a lot of mixing and the subbass might need some work too.

@dubby_rdam Nice intro, digging that whole vibe, the bass that comes in at 30 ish seconds needs a little more top end IMO as could that kick, I feel like it would sound a lot better if you hadn't rolled all that top end off, otherwise cool track!

@Cabre - Monster Keys - Only listened to this one man, liking that really disjointed breakbeat style at the intro I feel like you could change up that melody throughout though as it gets a bit boring / repetitive at times. Also, the drums, not digging that weak / limp / wet sounding kick, would make it punchier tbh

@BOMAN - Haha wow dude, enjoyed this more than I thought I would, sounds like you really nailed the mix tbh, not really sure what to say other than wouldn't mind hearing it when it's finished!

My upload this time is actually on Beatport as I had to use it as my submission to the Skrillex remix competition of 'Make It Bun Dem', I ran out of time so there isn't really an outro, otherwise it's pretty complete and wouldn't mind getting some opinions of it (And if possible, and you can have big ups forever if you do, vote!)

@BOMAN - Sounds very good, it's like deep minimal House music. I suggest chopping up bits of a female singers voice and use them sparingly with a lot of reverb effects to blend well with the ambiance of the whole track. You could even try some vocals from old VHS tapes from like the 1950's or 1970's.

@Cabre - Monster Keys, I like your use of saw wave bass in the background, but it sounds a bit too much in the high-end. EQ it some more just a tad bit buddy. I love the piano melody, you have a really chill Grime beat with the drums in the track which makes this whole track relaxing and unique.

@VirusTI - That remix has some great groovey and fidgety bits that I like, but the vocals were too fast and choppy, you practically spammed "rudeboy" all over it.. Use the vocals sparingly, don't just lay them out to fill the spaces.. I like the track and I think it could have made it to the Make It Bun Dem EP even, if it was a bit tweaked and if you had more time.

Now for my experimental junk.. The point of this track was to somehow replicate a watery gut/mouth sound like Zomboy's mid-range bass he uses a lot in almost all his songs especially Organ Donor. This IS a WIP by the way, it's just in an experimental state where I don't know what to do with it to improve it. I'd like to know.

@BYTEME : Let's talk a little bit of your drums. Too flat, too basic, no groove. There's one very important part for me, Hats ! All the groovy thing comes from this. You really should work on hats / ride / crash, try to give them some " life ", because without that, any tunes sounds flat and boring. I could talk about your synth, or the mixdown. But I think that working on hats could help you much more. I hope it's understandable, remember english is not my main language ;)

@VirusTI : It seems the beatport player have some problems, can't give any feedback without listening the tune.

@Dubby_rdam : There's pretty much good ideas on that, but the snare doesn't fit to me. Maybe the kick and the sub are a bit too high on the mix. One good tip on hats. Start with a simple pattern, and as long as the track goes, add variations, and make it more and more complex. It keeps your listener attention !

@Cabre : Great job on your tunes mate, love the classic clave on " Plateau ":D

Here's my tune now. It's the submission to the Perverse remix competition.

Electric head

Love the overall feel, but maybe could do with a little more definition in the echoey parts (vocal maybe, i couldn't quite pick it out). The hihat is awesome when it comes in. Could probably do with something to lead into the second breakdown, but that synth in the buildup is awesome.

Boman

Yeah this is a great idea, but it would be better with something added in there. Maybe just a little hook or something.

Darj

This tune is just amazing xD

dubby_rdam

Really nice track, but i think there might be something wrong in the mix (not exactly sure). It seems to lose all that energy from the intro when the sub kicks in. Don't trust me though, i'm listening on some pretty bad headphones...

My effort here is my first real attempt at any kind of dubstep, so it kinda sucks.
I got really stuck with the intro/breakdown sections...

EDIT: I have changed the intro as was suggested by members here, and it is now mixed much better...
I know the sounds that i used are pretty overused generally in dubstep, but i wanted to get a feel for what the norm is before i get too adventurous.

jockmcplop

the drop is actually alrite (mixing issues aside) intro needs work as u mentioned.
mixing wise i would just read the moneyshot thread, macc is a bit of a god like figure,
it sound to me that the reverb you have but on stuff is mudding it all up,

cabre,
monster keys is a bit of a tune mate, props

dubby-rdam

sound like the sub bass is taking up all your headroom, cant decide on the drum kind of bit, was the intention for them not to punch at all? imho they would sound better mixed more upfront, this has some potential though,
safe

got a tune on the soundcloud called project 17, all feedback appreciated,

@stinjee: Intro reminded me of the skream remix ;) haha, great melodies, liking the pad use!, has feel nicely panned! Kick and snare nees some work to get beefed up more , they feel a bit quiet and weak, try searching how to eq kicks and snares on youtube! Great overall job!
@JockMCPlop: Liking the intro, drop feels a little muddy, as in im not 100% whats going on on with that growl, second part of the drop is a lot better! main bass feels a bit weak, and im not sure but it sounds like your kick and snare are panned to the left..? They should be centered with width added through effects i think. Great job so far!
@Darj: GREAT WORK this is ill man! Only suggestions are maybe a bit more tone to some of the pads, theres one that sounds like a saw or or horn that im liking a lot, but i think it could use with another subtle tonal pad like that. I think the snare could use with a tiny bit more on the high end, but it still sounds great! Good luck man!

Here's my wip: Soundcloud
Ending isnt complete and that break in the middle isn't done yet either. Haven't gotten into the mixdown yet also, any opinions would be awesome!!! thanks!

Kick is too loud i know :P

@dj Cappa: I like the vibe, the perc is nice work to, the mastering is down tight and feeling smooth at the same time, ONLY thing I can really say, is making smoother transitioning, and change up the perc a lil bit every now and then, too tickle the ears and the track won't get repetitive, also, add some more pads prolly, but thats just mee
good work ! :4:

@Electric Head: I was deffo feeling the trackk, for your first, the mixdown is decent,... But Im disappointed, not that its badd, but you have yourself a nice melodic soft and soulful intro, and then you come with somee rough grimey over processed synth, no need for that mann, thats not all dubstep is :a: , hahaha..
but I give you your props, :) everything is sounding nice, just not fitting right, I think you should lose that main synth, and just keep the tune meditating on bass weight
and never stick to the basics ! adventure like crazy !! (: , hahaha, but if you do want to go for those crazy synths, check out Coki, Squarewave, Megalodon, any one of them and you'll work your fingers to the bone trying to replicate their iconic sounds !

@Darj: Mann, what are you doing here !? you know that tune is massive !
you don't need us ! hahahah its a great track, love perverse Deep Medi sounds and will listen to it anyday, excellent remix famm :4:
I didn't know about the perverse remix competition, seems like everyone is having a remix contest... ! ha but good work truly :W:
Send me the files or link to the files to download, deffo want to get on the perverse comp ! ha

Now here's my lame remix of BadKlaat - Freq Skank, for the Freq Skank Remix compp....

klesher dubs - its not terrible or lame, it just takes to long getting to the drop. and that vocal around 2:01 is too loud.

dj cappa- that break in the middle is inspired. I really like this chilled out kind of music and its working really well here. I like the prominence of the kick against everything else.

stinjee- I really like this song alot, but the :55 vocal doesnt vibe right with me. The break is really good though. Overall I don't really have much to say. coudl be my system, but the sub gets lost sometimes. Its clean as hell though.

Here's a short song, it was a clip but I think I should keep it at this length.

@Darj, your song was very full, good mixdown . everything was very clear and the sub bass sounded very good. nothing wrong with it really.

@jockmcplop, i liked the ideas your song had, but there were some mixdown issues with it, im sure if you cleaned it up a bit it would be a great tune.

@stinjee, i would throw a bit more reverb on that vocal sample,to give the song more ambience and fit it in a bit better. i like the tune though. its a groovy one, would throw in some switch-ups with the high-hats.

@djcappa, i like the ambience of your track, and all of the sounds fit the part nicely. was waiting for more progression, =P

okay guys. i made two wips yesterday and they are completely different vibes. would love for feedback on either one.

once again, much thanks for the feedback, it feels good that people are feeling what I do.
@cabre I like the stabs in the 'this isn't the" the claps are really nice too, the High hats are .. naw not feeling htose, too hyped up. I would mix em down a bit lower and give em a lil bit more reverb.
I like the the hh/oh on plateau way more, also like the woodblock thingie in there. the rythm to that song is way more right. I somehow don't like the kick in that song, and it could be me, but i'm not hearing any bass?
I love the drop and then the second part of the song, COWBELLS BABY!
monster key is the song that imo stands out the most. the mix of sounds is good overal.
@darjloving it, big up dude!
@BYTEME the synth is just flat and boring, what darkj said, work on that groove in the hats part.
@stinje loving this dude, really earie vibe, the vocals in there are just right. love the not to overabundant use of the hats. the synths are really nice too. would like to hear a second melody line in there. but overall it's really nice!
@dj cappa I like the use of the vocal samples once again, I agree with hlesherdubs that u could change up the percussion. liking the piano too, but not feeling that main synth, it sounds a bit bland compared tot he rest of the sounds.
@klesherdubsjust not my kind of dubstep, feeling that the intro is way too long. the talking wobble is a bit too harsh, the high of it is a bit annoying. the vocals in the second drop waayy too loud.
@eye-sicwill leave feedback tomorrow!

@wewuk: aight kool thanks, but some of you guys are missing the point, its not whether its YOUR STYLEE, or not, its about helping others get their PRODUCTION levels up, not if you like it or not, give them advice and tips on what you think can be done to make it better, like lowering frequencies, eq'ing and sidechaining the kick so it's clearer, stuff like that, not just one little thing or the other to get your track across without really giving details to help otherss.. come on guys, we gotta help each other out !

you're right, was kinda tired when I typed most of the feedback.
more feedback on your track: the snare in the intro sounds really strange, I don't like the sound of it, sounds really distorted to me. also I feel it's a bit soft in the mix, I like my snare to be abit louder like you did with the clap in the main part. the vocal in the second drop as said earlier is a bit too loud. could maybe use a bit more delay on it. you're main wobble synth before the first drop is a bit too harsh on my ears. I wouldn't use it their our cut down on the highs.

Lol thanks man(: but I wasn't referring to you but thanks for being honest.. And the snare in the intro is the wav sample that came with the remix pack,,,, idk what happen to it when I put it in a channel.. But I liked it hahaha so I kept it.
And the main I'll bring down abitt, but it's gotta smack the face a lil, haha I just chop, Eq, and put Maximus but I'll send you a 320 if I can get some monster coki type sound then I'll put all into it haha, thanks wewuk

@Eye-siC - Sounds, like a good track(chemistry). I am assuming that it has not had that much mixing down to it so things are a little loud.

@dj Cappa - Other than the kick being lowered (like you said) everything seems really great.

@stinjee - That backround pad is a little loud turn it down just a little bit.

Here is my cleaned up mix and added some stuff to my midrange. I am woundering if:
1. The mix is good.
2. If my drop has any grove. I am mainly talking about rhythm of my lfo.The drums will be worked on so it has more variation.
3. And if my sub bass is to loud. Assuming there can be too much bass
4. If anyone else hears those annoying high mids piercing sounds during the drop

OK i am pretty much a dubstep newbie but i will try to answer your questions...
1. The mix generally sounds like there are some frequencies missing. I mean not stuff that can be EQ'ed into your mix, but more that your song needs more stuff in it. One bass, a sub a kick, a snare and a hihat just doesn't seem enough to fill up a mix, if you catch my drift. Maybe there's other stuff real quiet in there, but i couldn't hear it.
2. The LFO works pretty nicely, but as you say the drums need a lot of work.
3. Maybe the sub could come down a little, but until your drums have been worked on it doesn't really matter.
4. No i don't hear them, but i'm not using a monitor, i'm just listening on headphones.

OK so i gave up on my first attempt at dubstep because i thought that the tune itself was pretty bad, so why polish a turd right?
I have decided to give the more chilled out vibe that most of you guys are going for a shot.

Soundcloud

Is there anything i'm doing drastically wrong here? I mean i kinda want to stay within dubstep convention for now, so is there anything in this tune that immediately makes you think that it shouldn't be there?

I'm having a lot of trouble with sub bass for some reason. Both the programming of something that sounds good and getting it to sit right in the mix. If anyone can hear something that i'm doing wrong help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks :)
