Coming from a guy whose first love is huge hip hip, trap music has always been the worst aspect. Producers like Shawty red, Drumma Boy and especially Lex Luger are actually dope. But they are one trick ponies with little variability. Lesser producers make a monotonous sound with little variation or creativity. Many seem to have very little formal musical training unlike most of the top tier rap producers and it shows. But the most egregious thing was the rappers associated with it. Some of the worst rappers in the history of the genre, came out the damn trap. Young Joc, Oj Da Juiceman, GUCCI MANE (Piece of shit ice cream tattoo having ass). Even Young Jeezy is a barely average rapper. It's the biggest black mark on a long line of black marks on hip hop in the history of the genre.

If dubstep producers can make something out of it that doesn't suck then all power to them. Harlem shake rocks, even Kromestar's Noiz has some of those trap elements when it comes to percussion. But like with hip hop, it's going to get old FAST.

BLACK PEOPLE in AMERICA have been making those for over a decade. And white dudes from the UK have just discovered it this afternoon and think their drum sounds are revolutionary (what's that shit called? Ate Oh Ate? what?). I'd say they're the exact same thing.

But even as good as some people seem to think Baauer is he's still light years behind bedroom producers in southern hip hop heavy cities. You can go to any Arab or Asian run gas station in the south, pick up random local hip hop mix tape with random local producer, and have way better "trap" tunes with far less cheese involved.
Flosstradamus and baauer do much better not following that "trap" formula. Same with Hudmo imo.

If that is really the case, why are they not massive?
I mean music is pretty much global now so if these cool as fuck bedroom producers dont know how to use soundcloud to get people to listen to their stuff Im not really sure what to say?

because they're not white kids from the suburbs wearing sweaters to nightclubs hyping up trap on pitchfork. Whether you admit it or not, trap has nothing to do with musical authenticity. It's a fad, a lifestyle accessory, and has no basis in musical talent.

If we were talking purely on talent then Drumma Boy would be the biggest name in Trap hands down... but we're not so he's not. We're talking about hipsters, in hipster venues, blogging on hipster blogs, about other hipster shit.

and as if 808 kits have only just been made available to us. Its the Dubstep twist that has propelled this sound to the next level. everybody knows this. Hip Hop is nothing new, whether your from russia/uk/ukraine.

And on that note...weve been making dubstep over here for over decade. a few americans have only discovered "wubs" in last few years and now look whats left of one of the best electronic sub genres. so call it payback
