I was on a training course a year or so ago with a Moldovan guy.. We were talking about drinking age being 21 for the States, and he remarked that by 21, most of his mates back home had given up drinking for health reasons.

I hardly drink anymore. It makes me depressed on the come down, completely fucks my energy levels up from the sugar levels and gives me the WORST fucking headaches.
So now I either can only have a couple of pints or I have to just commit and go the whole hog so that I can sleep through the worst of it. Joining my mates down the pub for lets say 4 or 5 drinks is something I no longer do because I will undoubtedly start sobering up before I sleep then It really fucks with my head.

2bad I suppose but Alcohol is fucking awful anyway when you think about it.

It's really ridiculous how much scrutiny you come under for not drinking though - almost as if you are violating social convention by NOT drinking. When I look at it that way, I realise how fucked up society is and how ridiculous people's double standards are.

I was flipping through some Readers Digest's advice book a couple of days ago. There was a chapter about pretending to drink in social situations. Stuff like "ask the bartender for a non alcoholic cocktail, that looks like an alcoholic one" or "say it's rum with cola, even though you're only drinking cola" or even "use an empty beer can and fill it up with water"... just to mention in the end, that if you don't want to pretend, you can say that you don't drink. WTF.

when i tried to cut down my alcohol consumption in first year people would literally buy me alcoholic drinks and put them in my hands rather than let me not drink... and we are talking students here, they meant to be scrooges
