Jon Convex
Having forged a strong following with the cult Automomic podcast and genre bending reputation from tunes like “Watching you”, you can’t blame even reality TV show Made in Chelsea dropping in a spot of Instra:mental into their high brow tea. But this isn’t about Instra:mental and praising the past accomplishments of the esteemed duo. It’s about Jon.
So far many who know the equation, [Alex Green (Boddika) + Damon Kirkham (Kid Drama) = Instra:mental]. What you might not realise is although Drama and Jon Convex are the same man, they could be nothing more alike. Having embarked on a one-man mission 4 months after Boddika launched, Jon Convex entered the arena wielding his analogue hardware and inexplicable ear for catchy phrases, battling his way in with his first release “Falling again” on the highly regarded 3024 imprint. Disconnecting from the depths of a synth strong VHS analogue sound, Insta:mental delivered for a niche 80’s groomed audience. Jon Convex while still strong in technical arrangements has a far more balanced approached between swarming powerful dark bass rhythms and catchy vocals alluring girls to the dance floor; EPM as he refers to it.
EPM or Electronic Party Music is a new wave term coined by Convex to humour the pretentious ideologies of today’s music. You cannot falter Convex for keeping a sense of humour in these musically disposable times.
But the Convex goes on.
He executes his autonomy further with the launch of Convex Industries. A podcast and record label have been propagated, showcasing guest appearances from dBridge, G.Vump and of course the head honcho himself, Jon Convex. Upcoming releases see an impressive catalogue of music from the likes of Velvit, Alex Smoke’s Wraetlic project and remixes from G.Vump and Scuba. There’s a coy hush hush tone of secret collaborations and releases for listeners to anticipate as well.
With all this happening this year, it’s clear to see that it’s going to be a big year for the Convex Industries CEO.
