Re: Bassline question
You still can't reverse midi, resampling is still more than just chopping and saving CPU, and you've still yet to tell me about those artists you know so well who don't resample. However I don't expect to get those questions answered, and since it's clear where this is all headed i'll just stop now. Hiricine's post covered all anyone needs to have read in this thread, give it a shot and see if it's useful to you

Re: Bassline question
lol? i was obviously referring to the initial questions and answers, which is how to make some blabla bass, and someone offering resampling, while explaining that the only use of resampling is chopping. So yea, overall, the only usage of resampling for bass design is for chopping, which means resampling = chopping.eyeatus wrote:you are a stupid person. read what you wrote. you just said chopping and resampling are two different things. hence (you can't chop without resampling). therefore, how could they be the same thing? STUPID. chopping is taking bits and pieces of the audio. resampling is bouncing midi to audio.ObscenityDubstep wrote:Obvious troll is failin, as i mentioned in the first post, resampling is fancy for chopping, and thats the whole argument.
get your head out of your ass. you have no reason to be such a egotistical little bitch. funny when you've been proven wrong 5 times now and you're still in denial.
Naming those artists? i obviously wont, i worked with a good fair share, and i'm obviously not going to say how anyone of them makes anything. I basically said that loads of you people give examples of artists who use resampling and answer to how to make a bass posts with loads of resampling, but its untrue as like almost every artist i met doesn't resample (except final outputs for manual beatmatching & whatever)
Funny enough, the 2 people who are arguing against me, have whatsoever no proven skill of them knowing anything above the avg producer.

It's more than chopping mate, and I'm wondering how the people you met stood out with such an assholeObscenityDubstep wrote:lol? i was obviously referring to the initial questions and answers, which is how to make some blabla bass, and someone offering resampling, while explaining that the only use of resampling is chopping. Re: Bassline question
Personally I just create a cool patch and then use a compression, limiter, Eq over EQ, love philter at times and glitch blue if needed at just a crisp or overlay them a tiny bit and have them do some interesting things from there.
On a quick note: You don't want to make the exact same sound, just similar sometimes.
For mix downs, bounce
For chopping just using the slicer'
And man, it just depends on how you want to go about it. There is never a wrong "bass" as long as it fuckin' sounds good.
Just read up and have fun with your stuff. Enjoy the musical side of things'
Didn't read any of the replies much so I have no clue whats going on but yeah Jamie that's my advice for you dude, or madam or whatever the who.

Re: Bassline question
Damn this thread is epic... Resampling offers a lot of possibilities that you can't do with MIDI as said before. Reversing, pitching and stretching are the main ones but still so many more things. Also, some people like to put their sounds in a sampler afterwards to process it even further, this offers even more options that you couldnt normally do in your synth.

You can reverse, pitch and stretch using regular vsts, granulizers and stuffs like that.ARTFX wrote:Damn this thread is epic... Re: Bassline question
I have to agree with Obscenity that resampling isn't really NEEDED. However, I do resample myself but for the sole purpose of saving CPU (my computer is absolute shit) and for the sake of chopping my audio.
I often get the feeling that people talk, talk and talk about resampling solely for the purpose of seeming more cool. I could be wrong, of course.

Re: Bassline question
no its because much of the production board is just regurgitated information by people who don't fully grasp what there saying...DubMikey wrote:I often get the feeling that people talk, talk and talk about resampling solely for the purpose of seeming more cool. I could be wrong, of course.

Re: Bassline question
Since I actually started resampling my basslines have become more gnarly. That's enough for me. I really only do it for layering/freqency splitting purposes, which I've now started doing in FL's mixer rather than actually resampling. Once the Synth is done (usually by the time the song structure is done) I then capture it, and slot in the sample to save CPU.
The way I see it, resampling is really only useful for layering (which can be done via the Mixer), resynthesis and for chopping (Which you can do with clever midi work anyway).
I'm no pro but since I started doing this kinda stuff my mixes have improved tenfold.

if the only use of a piece of bread was to butter it, does that mean bread = butter?
silliest thing i've ever heard

Oi, that's a bit harsh.eyeatus wrote: you are a stupid person.
In the end "resampling" (If you define it as "fx chaining" and "chopping") and the such is just a method of synthesizing sounds that some people are trying to get(Mostly midrange/high sounds, from the likes of Noisia).
If you don't like the idea of it, or you enjoy another "method" you can proceed to do just that.
It doesn't matter, hence its music after all...

Re: Bassline question
So yea, a fevv people get the point. Resampling is just fancying up, theres nothing in it vvhich is 'magical', nothing that you cant achieve vvithout it, and most importantly its not the thing that gonna make you sound like datsik.

obscenity, your music isnt that good yourself mate and resampling isnt chopping. your right about how it isnt necessary, but theres no need to be a penis about it
