Great track... her technical knowledge is zero, but her track is still great.

I did appreciate that comment about finishing the arrangement first then you have a better "Macro" view of where the track is going. I think sometimes it's very easy to get lost in a small section of what you're grooving to at the moment. Stepping outside and finishing a "quick" arrangement is a good way to stay on track, so to speak lol.

and of course it's always a good idea to take breaks one the creative "flow" gets impeded for any reason...

I also appreciate her honesty and genuine-ness. She's quite humble about the fact that most of that track uses presets and other samples from other people...and ideas...but again, due to the arrangement/composition, it's her own.

I meant that she says I have zero knowledge of "Hz and dB and stuff"

Its amazing that a lot people on here think its all about being technical, when its proof its not.

Not using the jargon =/= a lack of knowledge

Semantics don't get in the way of writing a good tune.

i need to start producing more like this. while watching it i was like wow she keeps it stupid simple. i tend to overwhelm myself in the complexity of it all. here i am making every patch from scratch. rewiring from reason, layering everything, frequency splitting, resampling. i get lost in the technical aspect of it and lose sight of the arrangement. its a bad mistake on my part. i think im going to start trying to crank out some tunes using more of a simple mindset.

she isnt making complex stuff though, like her stuff is more about the basic synth sounds and like melody and groove and shit. but if you trying to make a hype dubstep track with that kind of thinking it would most probably be shit. if you just want like simple waved synth sounds then frequency splitting is just too much, but for some nasty, growly bass well, its just gonna sound weak if you use just one instance of a sound.

yeah this is true, hadn't really thought of it like that. but i can think of a bunch of tunes that are more simple. i mean theres a little bit more sound design going on than ikonika but still overall simple. these tunes come to mind.

this one the bass arrangement/notes are actually similar to that ikonika song. the sound design is like i said a bit more involved but still keeping it simple with not so many automations etc.

edit woops posted the wrong depone song. this is the correct one. ^

this song reminds me of coki type shit. and its a pretty simple bass thats from subtraktor.

it's definitely the road to go down, it's becoming a ridiculously cliche thing to say but it's what you do with what you have (no blawan). I feel "limiting" yourself can actually help, strip everything down, try making a track with just drums from one drum machine(or a kit you made), one bass, one lead and see what you can do.

also you could try separating the technical side and the artistic side into different sessions, that helps some people who get caught up in EQing kicks for weeks on end.

Put your synths away and make some tunes from just samples (blank ESX for your sub), and make sure your drums are on point and interesting. I've been doing this recently and even my half finished projects I just tossed samples in sound 10x better than what I was making before. It's also a lot more fun to jam out and get a vibe going when you aren't drawing automation curves, splitting frequencies, and whatever other technical stuff bogs you down.
