GHOST OF ME - LIGHTS OUT (Dubstep & Trip-Hop / dark & epic)

Post by ghostofme » Thu Oct 04, 2012 3:52 am

Well, my very first thread.
I've been perusing this forum from time to time over the last few years and have found a good deal of useful info since, but never committed to creating an account- it's time for ME to share with YOU!

I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about this piece that I've recently put online after spending almost too much time slaving away at.. just fine tuning every last detail.
It needs mastering, but be as brutal as you need to be- it's all good by me so long as it's constructive.
Soundcloud

Stoked for your input guys!

Cheers,
Ghost Of Me

Hmm.. I don't hear it on my end, but I'll look into it. Thanks for the headsup.

Some awesome vibes you got going on here.
its probably a personal thing to me, but i like a bit more substance to a beat, if you know what i mean.. I definitely don't think the beat should start at the beginning of the track, because it sounds kinda bare when there's not a whole lot of other stuff going on. The mix is absolutely perfect.
Everything after the breadown at 1.51 is amazing, i especially love the vocals.

Like i said though i just have reservations about that beat. It could do with something sitting behind it for me, and also a little bit of variation here and there wouldn't go amiss.

positive and constructive- i like your style mate! really appreciate the kind words and input, means a lot. glad you dig the vocals. wasn't sure how they were being received by people. i grew up a metalhead, so i love that shit.

when you talk substance in the beat: i've got some ideas as to what you might mean, but would you mind elaborating on "sitting behind"? i'm curious.

cheers!

When i say sitting behind the beat, i just mean maybe a real quiet shaker (just for variation) or something like that to fill in the gaps. That accented staccato feel the beat has is cool, but i just think if it was toned down for part of the track it maybe wouldn't get as samey.
For the record i am nitpicking :)

oh, nitpick away dude! that's all i did with this track during all the 10 hour days i put into it over multiple weeks, but after awhile a guy needs a 2nd set of ears, you know? and you're input is the most helpful i've had. great ideas man, i'll try it out. cheers!

As I said in my soundcloud comment, I love this track, especially the vocals. I'm a big metal fan as well. Where/who are the vocals from?

Thanks! I did them myself bro. I was once a vocalist in a couple mathcore bands, back in the day lol

mathcore is an extreme sub-genre of metal. it's pretty sporadic a lot of the time, making use of a variety of complex and unusual time signatures. here's a more tolerable example of mathcore, in case you're not into metal: http://youtu.be/-Q5qvft2i-s (these guys are way better than anything i ever did though haha)

Oh good lord...well, at least I've learnt a new sub genre today. Not my thing at all, but fair play.

So emotional. I'm not sure if I've ever heard such screams in dubstep.
