Zomboy...
I realise most people dislike Zomboys music and won't give a shit about this... but I just heard his new EP and it bugged me:

Am I the only one that notices the blatant remade cuts from other songs?

Re: Zomboy...
yeah zomboy has always done this and he uses vengeance a lot for his intros (takes full loops without changing them lol)
really don't know how he gets away with sampling skrillex like that after releasing it.

Re: Zomboy...
The progression in Deadweight/Centipede is actually pretty unfortunate but other than that I dunno how similiar they are. Any dubstep song with a reggae guitar skank is going to sound like the rest, that's unavoidable, and as far as Vancouver/Devil's Den goes I don't think they're that close. A lot of EDM sounds alike.
I agree that's he's an unoriginal no-trick pony though, but still.

Freshest track atm.
Re: Zomboy...
I'm sorry but I just want to weigh in on something about Zomboy's acquired hate...
First, I don't see much comparison in arrangement/composition of said tracks. The only thing that I can see is the off beat reggae plucks that maxxan mentioned. Other than that, I think his production is tight as hell.
I have a pair of krk rp8's, two alpine r12s in my car (which is a new purchase for myself) and apline speakers all the way around. It's not the most tuned system, but PLENTY powerful/punchy. I bring this up because I have really began to notice the benefit of a solid mixdown through nicer quality sound mediums. Yes, not TOP NOTCH, but bottom line is, my ears are learning. And back when wub created that one thread about "What songs you're loving the production on, and why", I posted about knife party's track "Centipede". What got me was when the drop hit, it sounded beautiful. The way the kick is tuned to the bass, the way the sub hits, and the mid range is pretty gnarly of course which is nice for me too. What I'm getting at is that track just nailed it on the mixdown...for me at least.
WIth Zomboy, I don't see why so many people hate. Yes, uninspired bro-step noises are getting rinsed. But how about how cleverly he arranges them to make a melody? What about their design in how full and crisp the sounds are (IF he does his own sound design vs Sampling)? What about the fact that the whole "Dead Symphonic" EP has such a punchy sub bass presence?
I honestly think that Zomboy is next level when it comes to arrangement and mixdown (if of course most of what he does comes from him, as I can't speak for his sampling habits). I find him in the similar vein as Feed Me... though from what I gather, Zomboy isn't as much of a synth master, but regardless...Much like that Ikonika post, sometimes it's about HOW you use what you got rather that what it IS that you got...
Yea brostep fan boy here, but how can you not appreciate how well he can go from the upper to lower register fluently with all that melody to accompany that complex composition? Appreciation doesn't me you have to like it btw...just sayin..

I'm not debating the quality - it's tight as hell in terms of brostep, I liked his first EP a lot.Toolman4 wrote:I'm sorry but I just want to weigh in on something about Zomboy's acquired hate...

My problem is just blatant similarities of sections (most obvious in Centipede and Devils Den comparison). Not hating... just starting up a discussion

Re: Zomboy...
In all seriousness. He is pretty dull and generic and irritating and painful to listen to.
Re: Zomboy...
I dislike the sampling but I still think Nuclear is a killer track. The lead melody part of the drop is beautiful. He has a knack for making catchy stuff and composition wise I definately rate him above most other brosteppers. His Bass Cannon remix is god tier as well, the little drum break before the drop is sweet. His growls suck ass though, IMO, and a couple tracks off the new ep are bollocks. But yeah, he's okay.

Re: Zomboy...
He has great mixing and sounds/synths but the way he organizes them... he just imitates other songs too much.
To us producers it's easy for us to pick that stuff out, other listeners, not so much. So they eat that shit up.

Fuck I forgot about Savant, heard some of his stuff ages ago and liked it.
In a similar vein check out Popeska and xKore although both are kinda well known.

Re: Zomboy...
+1 on Popeska and xKore there. I gotta say I'm really rating Skisms stuff atm. 'Like This' is one of my favorite dubstep tunes in like, ever. Was pretty sick when Zomboy dropped that track at a festival I was too. His upcoming Division EP is going to be huge, he's doing a collab with Zomboy there on a track called Kick It that's a total fucking killer, really looking forward to that. Production-wise Skism is one of mny favs right now, he has some really special sounding growls and his high synths are mindblowingly good. Really underrated producer IMO.

Loved Skism since he popped up with his early EPs, tbh I'm a big NeverSayDie records fan.Maxxan wrote:+1 on Popeska and xKore there. I gotta say I'm really rating Skisms stuff atm. Re: Zomboy...
Haha yeah I like a lot of their stuff as well. Skism has made a couple pretty dope mixtapes for neversaydie, also he released a mixtape series to promote his EP. You should check 'em out, some quality tunes in there. I'm a huge fanboy, can't mention dubstep without praising his production lol. The bassline in the verse to Like This is like, the most dope thing I've ever heard. Dat sub man.
