Have a special fondness of dubstep and dirt but with some music also...also a sucka for a vocal.

Used all the main DAWs but have finally settled on Ableton this year, awesome. All my sounds are VST's and i mostly programme all drums.

Hi Everybody!

First post!

My name is Greg and I live in Oregon, U.S.A. I've been a serious musician for over 15 years, playing guitar/drums/bass in metal bands since I was a teenager. I've been serious into recording/engineering since I was about 16. I've always had a casual fondness for electronic music but never fully got into it until I discovered Chasing Shadows a year or two ago. Recently I've been starting to feel disenchanted with metal and rock music in general lately, because it feels like there are too many "rules" that can get in the way of just having fun and playing what you love. Writing and recording original music has always been my main passion, and I've come to a point where I just want to have fun writing again, without the bureaucracy of bandmates who can't agree on anything, and producers/labels who want you to play stuff that will "sell".

While I'm a complete noob when it comes to dubstep and electronic music in general, I do have years of experience recording real drums (though I no longer own any) and guitars/bass/vocals. I'm here to learn, but hopefully I have some knowledge that might be of use to others here as well.

I'm a Dubstep producer living in The Netherlands. Before producing Dubstep, I produced and released alot of Hardcore tracks (Rave) from 2007 till 2011 (Vinyl, CD's, Digital).
With this knowledge and over 15 years of producing / experience I'm creating my new passion Dubstep for over 2 years now.
Currently I'm working on my first Dubstep "Album' idea and hope to have it ready and released next year, atleast thats my goal for 2013

Hey guys,

I got into dubstep a fair while back and have been following the underground scene for quite a while now! been consistently digging artists such as: Akira, Vylex, AD, Subfiltronik, Bukez, Martz, Suplex, Jam PRD, Spastix, TMP, T.A.R, Styn, Skeng, Knife, Vermin, LV, Flexa and loads more!

Got lots of time for those guys, its artists like them who got me into step and now have inspired me to have a go at producing! I'm learning everything myself, and thats why I'm here! Made a few tracks and got the feel for production, and thats why I figured now was a good time to sign up to DSF, so I could improve on what I already have! Fantastic forums though helped me out a lot!

So, i'm a newcomer to the forum, and newer to the sounds of dubstep. so please take it easy on me. i have spent the better part of an hour searching on this forum for a place to ask a question i had, and have yet been able to find the right place. so as a newcomer i am hoping someone can point me in the right direction, i recently moved from Florida to Montana, i got into dubstep a lot in FL and there were plenty of places to go to listen to new sounds. but now i am in montana and am clueless, i cant really ask in the events topics as my question will not meet the format. in the Q&A all i saw was some posts from producers and stuff but not really an appropriate place post. so i would like to know. i want to post a questions "where can i find dubpstep events in montana?" where would the appropriate place to post it? thanks to all,

I'm in Idaho and the closest any dubstep shows come to where I'm at is in Salt Lake City, Bozeman and maybe Missoula or Billings.

Actually starting to get a bit more serious with it, see what I can do. I don't favor any genre, I like jungle, drum and bass, dubstep, hardcore, trance, house, etc.

This is interesting. From my experience, ever since it became mainstream in America it's gone from being chill music you smoke weed and hang out to to being the new death metal, complete with cocksucker scene kids and bros moshing and drinking.
Can't be alone in the thought that this new era of dubstep is only ushering in the new jungle scene (i hope anyway).

Nah, there's some good dubstep made in the States, but mainstream American music ruined and rinsed the sound. There's a Nerds commercial featuring the worst dubstep track I've ever heard.
