press photos that promoters use for flyers and such should be free use. so many djs have never heard of a press kit. it's usually up to a performer to have some decent shots readily available for promotional materials.
"Sometimes I do see people saggin, with dirty underwear, and it is indeed a sad thing."
Fair play. But I can confirm as a promoter that the quality, quantity, etc of the photos some agencies provide is often shocking.seckle wrote:not directing this at people specifically, but i wish people would realise that photography isn't a free service all the time. don't take creativity for granted.
maybe offer someone some money for photo use and you'll get better results. ?
sure, but the question here is going out to ordinary people who've paid a fucking shitload for the body, glass, and probably flash as well, and spent god knows how long honing their skills. (edit: plus film for people who shoot that. film + development can get hugely expensive when you're paying for quality film, as opposed to a kodak 24.)showguns wrote:press photos that promoters use for flyers and such should be free use. so many djs have never heard of a press kit. it's usually up to a performer to have some decent shots readily available for promotional materials.
no excuse for proper agencies not getting good shots sorted. but it's pretty fair to compensate ordinary people if you're using their (free) work for yours (paid).

Thanks for your help. It has been sorted out now.masstronaut wrote:I think they're promoting a rave, that's why they want photos.
exactly, promoting http://www.RAW2007.dk
Some reporters asked us for high-res press photos of the crew for newspaper articles, so Im just passing on contact details to photographers. I'd reckon they pay a standard fee for printed articles.
to all the haters, chill!!!
Giving them out free is great promotion for all artists involved as long as recognition is given.seckle wrote:not directing this at people specifically, but i wish people would realise that photography isn't a free service all the time. don't take creativity for granted.

many people have given out loads of artwork for the cause, for the scene, for a favor to a friend, etc. that's all well and good.Jubscarz wrote:Giving them out free is great promotion for all artists involved as long as recognition is given.seckle wrote:not directing this at people specifically, but i wish people would realise that photography isn't a free service all the time. don't take creativity for granted.

it's just time that people appreciate talent and hard work and maybe offer something more than drink tickets and guest list. get meh.
