his stuff sounds comparatively amateur (but much better imo) since he's dropped off mau5trap, so it probably was one of them. or they hired hollywood sound designers for it (which wouldnt be a bad thing imo, i'd totally do it)

anyway, he didnt make it. and the scatta growl is indeed way better.
haha @ "hollywood sound designers" and "they" being the ones hiring said designers.
Considering a lot of times "they" sample stuff from material from "hollywood sound designers" work, is it that far fetched?

FM8 users should try this out

1) Create basic FM8 Growl patch using both the internal filter operator and an external High pass (high res) and Low pass filter, all cutoff values linked to one macro

2) Make a basic midi pattern and automate said macro

3) Capture audio, link to mixer track, eq and effect

4) Change FM8 patch, high pass wetness, distortion (assuming you're using a multiband distortion plugin like ohmicide) until it sounds completely different, then capture sample, rinse and repeat. The idea here is to have 3-4 layers each doing different things. It's basic resampling layering, but some of you newbies might not know about it :D

Oh and FYI the cutoff ratio for the high pass is 0.5

I try to get a 'wet' sounding sample, a sample that emphisises the vowel, and one that's just distorted beyond reason for the low-mid throaty sound. Then it's just a matter of doing creative stuff with it, I like to chop it up and completely reassemble it. Leads to very creative sounding stuff.

I gotta say after switching from Massive to FM8 over the last couple of weeks my synthesis has improved 10 fold...so much you can do with it.

First, I did this in like 3 minutes. Second, I put this up for fun but you had to take it serious, however, I am happy you took offense to it bro. That lets me know your so petty you wasted your time making something silly while I was getting better at something else. The funnier thing though is you wonder why your bass sounds like a small girl humming in a field of daisy's, while you waste time criticizing something that is art and in no way is singularly subject to your narrowed minded and judgmental opinion. That's just a longer way of saying I don't give a fuck about your opinion. To conclude your class for today, the homework is, figure out how to live in the moment and leave what has passed behind brother, that's what it means to live.

Sincerely,

He spent like 6 months making the EP from his previous one, and 2 of the tracks were basically remakes of tracks from the previous EP; so god knows how much time he dedicated to actually making the brand new tracks including SMANS (according to 12th Planet he worked basically 9-5 on production a lot of the time).

The fact is he spent a lot of time on each track, he is a musician so melodies probably weren't hard to write, whilst making them learnt stuff from Noisia, probably had help from deadmau5 with regards to synthesis/mixing and had the EP mastered professionally. None of his "post stolen laptop and hard drives" tracks (except for leaked/unreleased demos that were released after but made before) have similar growls because he probably thought "fuck it I spent X amount of time making all those tracks and basses, I'm going to start fresh". I know I would, why would you try and remake old tracks... he's evolved his sound the way he wants to, instead of making similar tracks over and over; whether it's for the better or worse is up to you.

Why the fuck would mau5trap hire "hollywood sound designers" to make dubstep basses? You can hear similar ideas in his pre-mau5trap releases, it's just so much more raw, distorted and unrestrained.
why the fuck would they not? maybe someone made a joke about making an album with the sound designers from transformers then someone else was like 'dude lets actually do that' then the scatta growl got made for a couple bucks and everyone laughed at how ridiculous the whole thing is
im not saying thats what happened but its possible you know, you guys are acting like i'm challenging your religion or some shit.
i mean come on, i've heard skrillex's stuff before he did dubstep (actually got into him via a remix he did for horse the band) and you're trying to tell me that just by hanging out with noisia and spor this guy suddenly had a 6 month phase of making mind-boggling bass sound design (which is pretty much all these guys are known for) and then when he stops being on the same label he suddenly can't do it anymore?
thats bollocks. get over it, they sat together in the studio and made him some patches. how's that even ghostwriting, its helping each other out. y'all just jelly you aint buddies with feed me.

1) It's possible but highly unlikely. Also in reference to the scatta bass, the track features both bare noize and foreign beggars so yeah he didn't make it alone.
2) I don't doubt in 6 months of learning from other producers, getting signed to a professional label and probably getting advice from professional mixing engineers he went from his first EP to the second.
3) He didn't stop being on mau5trap, he started his own label... if he wasn't so popular I don't doubt he'd still be on mau5trap like Feed Me is. Hell, Noisia even realease on mau5trap now.

But yeah, people are always going to come up with ideas and no one will ever know because all Skrillex has said is "yeah I use FM8" and "yeah I spent time with Noisia". Some people will never believe some kid that sang in a shitty screamo band single handedly became the "poster boy" of the new bass music scene... it's a highly unlikely story, but it's fun.

It's actually amazing how you guys are arguing over such utter shit. I don't want to call it music. He basically took dubstep and shoved it up his arse.

Noone of any note gives a solitary fuck about this guy, have some taste.

Albeit there's a lot more at a skrillex night, there's still plenty of douches at the media sessions in my area too...

That's the type of scene it is. It's similar to a metal gig in a way, same aggression and energy. Therefore it is a similar crowd, and many people like to stay away from that scene, which I understand. However, many people (myself included) like to bask in the gloriousness of that atmosphere. Call us derro all you want, because it's in our nature not to care about your opinion.
