Dumb MIDI question

Post by daft cunt » Mon Jul 30, 2007 10:46 am

Is MIDI used as sound output or is it only used for syncing instruments together?

midi only sends info like this:

what note what played
how hard it was played
where (rhytmically) it was played
pitch bend
modulation
aftertouch
state of other settings

doesn't deal w/ sound at all-- only info about what's played

midi = 10110100110110 (not specifically in that order but you get the point) :)

Think of it like musical information, what notes are played and so on, like what TeReKeTe said. The synth/sampler/whatever is what makes the actual audio.
