best way to setup drums in logic?

so before i always do my drums in 2 nnxt's in reason and use the regroove mixer and then rewire to logic. but the work flow is a pain in the arse and id like to just handle my drums in logic. but whats the best way to do so so that each drum hit has its own mixer. i know i can do that with the multi outs of a esx24 or ultrabeat. id like to use ultrabeat but i heard theres a glitch with the transients or something in ultrabeat? i eventually wanna get battery 3 but until then i need an effective solution. the esx isnt bad but honestly for switching samples and what not the editor doesnt seem too intuitive and i hate how it always makes me save the editor window...

I usually just put my drums in the track as audio, snare on one channel kick on another etc. etc. I find it easier to move all the hits around and I like seeing where the transients are especially when I'm using samples from old funk breaks where the snare doesn't always start on the snap from where I've been cutting them out previously. Not everyone likes doing it like that but its worth a shot!

Id buy Logic 10 if that was the only thing they changed lol

Sometimes I'll have everything on it's own audio track. But most of the time I'll have all my percussion and hats in the exs24 and my kicks and snares on audio tracks because I like seeing where my main hits are. I never really liked the way the exs or the ultrabeat worked.

how can you apply swing to your hats without manually moving each drum hit when working with audio?

yeah i use audio sometimes too but i do like the cohesiveness of having something like ultrabeat, if only i liked it more.

yeah, im at the point now where i literally am just solid with the basics. i can shape a sound fairly easily but im no wizard that cna just make any sound i want. its more of i kinda know how i want it to sound so i apply techniques and experiment and it comes out in someway that i like. but hey, its progress.

i cant wait to use razor honestly. it seems fairly easy to use but with still a ton of opportunity.

but do you know how to add swing in logic to certain tracks like all my hi hats and percussion besides the kick/snare? i cant seem how to figure out how to use the swing or groove function in logic. i downloaded some mpc swing %'s but i couldnt figure out how to apply them. can anyone help me?

Kicks and snares as an audio track, and then I use Ultrabeat for the hats and the rest of the percussion. Sometimes I'll build my whole loop on an Ultrabeat slate, and the split it up once I've got the initial idea into separate tracks. Seems to work pretty well.

I haven't used any of the MPC templates and what not so I'm not sure if it works the same. But if you just highlight all the things you want to add swing to (all your hats for example) then add swing from the drop down menu it should only apply it to the highlighted notes. I've been using battery too, but after I'd pitched/enveloped/etc my kick and snare I just bounce them and put them in as audio, the hats I leave in MIDI. Makes it easier to mute hits as I go and now I've got a processed drum hit in my library

There are already a few different swing templates that come with logic, I don't know much past that. You can do what you are talking about pretty easily with battery, you just select the channel you want each individual hit to come out of then duplicate the arrange track using the same instrument. Attempting to do all this while having to search for samples in battery's tiny little screen pretty much killed my workflow though, I just moved to using audio for everything. However I still use battery for the pitch adjust and envelope on individual hits if needed

You can add swing to your hats as audio files as well.
