MTV
Does MTV make anyone else mad? I hear alot of the stuff and think it's shit, but there'll be university students, who are meant to be smart adults, who think Call Me Maybe and One Division are not just tolerable, but "hell good!"
This also expresses my view toward undergraduates.
EDIT: I also remember one of them saying "I like MTV, but not when it's like Skrillex."

It makes me mad when I really get to thinking about how much great music is out there compared to the terrible stuff that's put out. Then I realize that some people just can't think for themselves, much less find music for themselves. I'm very optimistic

Just because you don't like the song doesn't mean that its not music. Don't get me wrong, a lot of popular music is shitty but songs like "call me maybe" and such are actually alright the first 5 times. After I started producing music I found myself not hating country music and such anymore and I didn't bash it like I used to. I still prefer not to listen to Carly Ray whatever and Taylor Swift but the music they put out is far from shitty.Skeemstep wrote:It makes me mad when I really get to thinking about how much great music is out there compared to the terrible stuff that's put out. I think I thought it was retarded pretty early on. Music (television) is a communication medium, and the song communicates nothing new, contributing nothing the economy and taking alot of money. Having the other person call you is how you don't get laid.
One Direction is worse because they sexually objectify children.

Re: MTV
I agree with this completely. The songs are pretty good (obviously depending on opinion though), but its just the fact that "pop" radio stations play a cycle of like 5 new songs over and over for a month. You can't listen to those stations without going crazy and you begin to hate all of the songs when at first you thought they were good or at least not bad. Its kind of funny, because since everyone hates the songs after the month or so, the addition of any new song is a huge and overhyped deal, it doesn't matter how good the song is. Everybody that only listens to just those pop stations and thinks thats all there is to modern music falls in love with it, and then it gets played every 5 minutes.OfficialDAPT wrote: Just because you don't like the song doesn't mean that its not music. The majority of people out there would share the view that most of the tunes labeled between dubstep and brostep aren't really music, thats something to think about.

Welcome to mainstream culture? Call Me Maybe is still popular? I thought Gangnam Style has overthrown it as flavor of the month!

Don't get me wrong! I love all types of music and I know what is a good production/ what isn't. I was referring to poorly produced/ poorly sung tracks. Should've been more specific. I used to be all for just the music I liked until I realized how stupid it is to do that. Every type of music that's well produced has aspects that I can enjoy, Just learning that myself. Call Me Maybe goes in hard, fuck you all.
Also pretty sure all undergrads don't live for MTV, stop generalising. Most of the places near me when I was a student catered for dubstep/dnb/electro/house music rather than "club" music.
