Also pretty sure all undergrads don't live for MTV, stop generalising. Most of the places near me when I was a student catered for dubstep/dnb/electro/house music rather than "club" music.

I'm not in the city, so we don't have stuff like that. Just cheesy clubs.

It makes me mad when I really get to thinking about how much great music is out there compared to the terrible stuff that's put out. Then I realize that some people just can't think for themselves, much less find music for themselves. I'm very optimistic

Just because you don't like the song doesn't mean that its not music. Don't get me wrong, a lot of popular music is shitty but songs like "call me maybe" and such are actually alright the first 5 times. After I started producing music I found myself not hating country music and such anymore and I didn't bash it like I used to. I still prefer not to listen to Carly Ray whatever and Taylor Swift but the music they put out is far from shitty.

You can't deny on most pop songs the mixes are spot on for their purpose (radio/club play) but thats obviousy because they get done by professional engineers.

He didn't say radio specifically, stop trying to get all technical with how he worded something for the sake of an argument. Whether you hear them on the radio, youtube or if you download it, you can still tell the mixes on most of those songs are pretty spot on. And they should be because someone's likely getting paid a fair amount of money to do them.

The thing I find about pop music is that it's all the same formula. Every producer that produces house is the same. heavily sidechained lead with a vocal and the same melody for the entire tune.

It's what people like yes, and those tracks aren't indeed not bad for the first time you hear it, but it's just a shame that there is no diversity in pop music.
