What is the cheapest, most nutritious food?

Ok so times are hard as a student, again. I need to know the cheapest most nutritious food I can eat for somewhere up to a month. I mean like 50pence a day cheap! That would be useful.

I read one can sustain life from coconuts alone. But coconuts aren't cheap so i can't choose them.

My freezer space is limited so mass amounts of frozen chilli may not be possible.

I am not a fuzzy eater. But I draw the line at dog food.

Supermarket basics baked beans
basics brown bread
basics frozen vegetables
bag of frozen chicken/frozen fish when you can afford them

It's not pretty but it will tick the boxes.

You can get batter mix for 6p from asda- live on pancakes.

I'm also trying to find good for for cheap, too easy to just eat shit at uni

Atm i've been eating rice with fish & vegetables. If you go for sainsburys basics & buy tinned or frozen fish it's really cheap. Then just buy a bag of brown rice & some mixed veg, cook the rice & the fry it up with the fish & veg. Tastes pretty good & probably works out about 50p a day.

Well deposit and bonds on the house I moved into skinned my loan to about £400 and the first term is always the most expensive due to buying bedding and plates and all that rubbish. Now I'm near the tail end of that and have decided to live a meek existence for the coming month in an attempt to save cash. Could be worse. At least I have a roof eh?

Think I could get pretty much all my stuff for free from work.

Make sure you still eat enough vegetables (fresh or canned). Fruit sucks.

Lentils. A good Dahl can keep a man going all day, throw a couple of eggs and some homemade flatbreads on the side.

If you have spices, a badman dahl is always encouraged. Lentils, any veg you've got, spices to make it tasty, bang.

So true!! Go skip hunting after dark, serrrrrious. Go to big shops like Tesco, Co-Op, One Stop. All the Asdas and Morrisons round here crush their rubbish so thats no good. Smaller shops tend to remove food from packaging before chucking it so thats no good.

Though I would also suggest buying food, living solely on dived food is not that nutritous, mainly lots and lots of bread produce. Though you do find plenty of veg and other stuff too. The other day I found 65 cans of beer, kapow!

And everything save the 2 minute noodles is healthy for you, might be worth hitting up the local farmers markets if you have one for your veg needs as they tend to be cheaper than supermarkets.
I used to buy those huge bags of rice and bags of beans that would last for ages and supplement it with most of the stuff on that list, but snag some pasta as well. The key is to invest in lots of spices and such when you have spare cash.

buy rice
buy some pre-cooked chicken in your deli section
buy some onion
buy some bell pepper

average meal cost $1.00ish USD, very healthy, goes way harder than beans and rice or ramen

If you combine lentils with brown rice, you get your complete protein. Chickpeas are great for that, too. Also, porridge in the morning will give you enough energy to survive til the lunch time - you can cook it with an apple or chop in a banana, to keep it varied. Remember about veg, maybe greens like sauted kale, it's got loads of minerals. It's still in season too, so goes quite cheap!

Yeah I live beside a Lidl who keep their bins locked in doors the greedy animals. Otherwise I would definitely rob the bins and eat for free lol.

The dahl sounds tasty but them spices will cost a fortune.

I used to live next to Lidl. Bins were open until some wanker decided to burn one, bye bye free melons.

Do you have a local ethnic shop? The spices are dirty cheap in here, like 40p for a bag that will last you for a year.
