how to mono low frequencies in logic (reasons stereo imager)
im wondering if there is an AU plugin or any way in logic to mono out certain frequencies. like in reason the you can set the threshold of the stereo imager so that anything below x frequency is mono. i really need this because after adding stereo effets to my bass its become a bit weak and sloppy down bottom. i cant be arsed to frequency split every time i make a bass, plus i cant even frequency split in logic since the multipressor and eq do a shitty job.
any help?
any help?
Re: how to mono low frequencies in logic (reasons stereo ima
How low are the frequencies? Cause I usually just build my basses so they don't really go under 100 hz at all and then I throw a sub bass in a different vst. Or you could rewire reason into logic.

i use a seperate sub bass as well. im talking in the 100-500hz range is getting muddy and weak. and rewiring and what not is what im trying to avoid.Bassf4ce wrote:How low are the frequencies? My mistake man, sorry... I'm an FL/Protools guy, so that was lost on me. For my own learning what's an AU?

iv read this can be done with a Mid side eq. i have ddmf's iieq which i believe has MS feature. how would i go about mono'ing out below a certain frequency though?

This video should help you, it shows you an easy way of splitting the frequencies on your bass and putting the lows in mono:

Re: how to mono low frequencies in logic (reasons stereo ima
yeah but logics eq's or multipressor doesnt make exact cuts, and theres overlap. so id rather not do it that way. i think it would be easier to just effect the whole bass and then mono the <800hz or so no?
i have ddmf iieq which has a MS eq. do i just HPF the frequencies i want mono on the Side part of the eq? will this work? or should i use that other ddmf stereo plugin with the crossover frequency.

Lyons, I’m looking for the exact same tool. If you find it before me, please IM me. Seriously.Eat Bass wrote:iv read this can be done with a Mid side eq. i have ddmf's iieq which i believe has MS feature. how would i go about mono'ing out below a certain frequency though?

@ Jock: That's a VST, I'm looking for an AU.
Will do man. I'm pretty sure it can be done with a Mid Side EQ such as DDMF's IIEQ Pro or even Abletons EQ8 I believe has it. I'm looking more into it though and I've also been testing. From what I'm noticing so far if I put a HPF on the Side EQ everything below the filter is in mono, which is what I want. But, I'd like to verify that this is actually happening before I come to a conclusion. It's hard for my pretty untrained ears to tell, especially when I don't have a club system to test it out on.+3 wrote:Lyons, I’m looking for the exact same tool. Just a tip man, if you mono sum a bass with lots of widening effects like chorus ect its going to sound horrible with lots of phasing ect... you need to keep your mid/side seperation... well seperate. Just set up a logic project, then use your preferred seperation technique (mines using a good mb comoressor, with the compression disengaged) and save the project as a template.

iv been at this solution for ages man and i cant seem to find an effective way to split my bass in logic!Depone wrote:Just a tip man, if you mono sum a bass with lots of widening effects like chorus ect its going to sound horrible with lots of phasing ect... you need to keep your mid/side seperation... well seperate. sure i know how to do it using the stock MB compressor as well as the stock EQ, BUT whenever I do that theres HUGE overlaps...especially with the MB compressor. When I use the MB compressor theres legit noticeable bass in the high cut...The EQ isn't quite as bad but it leaves it sounding a bit muddy due the to curves and really not being the correct filter for the job.
I wonder if I could use Fabfilter Saturn and just leave the settings off to split up my bass. Would that work? If not can you please recommend me a method or decently priced plugin that will do the job? Also once you split and effect do you throw your bass into kontakt or what have you? I just got Komplete 7 for $200 bucks and Kontakt seems to be like learning a new DAW.
By the way will that MS EQ work for what im talking about? By just high passing the side EQ? Or will that still lead to junk like you mentioned in the thread.
by the way i actually just pmd you this incase you lose the thread. im awaiting your valued answer!
