Chizzle - Love And Passion
Helloo y'all!
So, this is the first time i'm dropping a dubstep track to a forum, I have some other tracks on my soundclound profile..
Didn't have the time yet to check out the tracks on this forum, but will do!
In the mean time, please check out my creation, and let me know what you think:
Soundcloud
I'll return the favor!
Thanks!

Re: Chizzle - Love And Passion
Felt that 2m30s onwards was just a repeat of the first half of the tune...like there weren't any new elements/beat switch ups to keep my interest.
Re: Chizzle - Love And Passion
Drop felt a bit stale to me, very little variation going on. Seems to me like you just made a few wobbles in massive and played with some midi notes. Try mixing it up a bit, look up plenty of tuts on youtube and learn how to samples things/layer/resample/layer etc. Spend a few hours a week making patches and sampling them. Keep a library of these samples and group them according to key and tempo. Learn bass growls, reese basses, high stabs etc. and go from there. Some variation in the percussion would be nice also. That one hi hat running through the entire song is kinda boring.

@Wub, @Sure_Fire:
Thanks for your feedback! Indeed the track can use some more variation, maybe after I've created some new patches some of these will fit in..
@Sure_Fire:
Will check out the sample/layer/resample/layer suggestion you point out, I've heard about it before, but never took the chance to dive into it, will do!
One little question about the creation of my own sample library, do you mean exporting these massive-patched-sounds to wave-files? Like I said I don't know about sampling/layering yet, but is it common to export all these small samples for later use, and what is the benefit of this?
Thanks again for the feedback!

I don't know what DAW your using but use FL and whenever I want to sample anything I record it with Edison, then save it to the most fitting folder in my sample library (which automatically saves as a wav. file). The drop track I'm working on atm is made almost entirely of stuff I've sampled in the past. A cool thing to do also is to save it in multiple keys, since pitch shifting can sometimes make samples sound strange.timbaah wrote:One little question about the creation of my own sample library, do you mean exporting these massive-patched-sounds to wave-files? I use Ableton Live, never really used samples in tracks, only for drums, vocals and FX.. Never for synths, basses, etc. I already took a quick look at some Layering tutorials, and I understand and believe the concept so will try it asap.. But it seems to me I could just be layering with massive instances.. The main reason I like to do it this way is so that I can always change the OSC, Filter, FX, etc. at a later time.. If I save all the patches I can still do that anyway, but I just don't see the advantage yet of having them stored as wave files.. Probably I see it when working like this..

True, always stick to what best for you. I only save samples when something doesn't fit or I come up with a new patch or something that I want to use in an existing tune, since I make all my basslines in seperate project files so things don't get cluttered. The samples stack up eventually. When your tracks get more complex this is something you really kinda need to do. As for layerng instances of synths, that's ok but I would end up with about 30 massives, 20 or so sytruses and 15-20 harmless instances...then there's sylenth and zeta leads, razor, harmor...it's hell for your CPU.Electric_Head wrote:If that works for you timbaah then stick to it.

I didn't really got to that point yet, but I can understand that it will slow things down eventually..As for layerng instances of synths, that's ok but I would end up with about 30 massives, 20 or so sytruses and 15-20 harmless instances...then there's sylenth and zeta leads, razor, harmor...it's hell for your CPU.
Though I must say, is it really required to use that much synthesizers? Of course it depends on the complexity of the track and the amount of layering, but in my opinion, less is more. The greatest tracks are just plain simple, with drums three to four synths and some FX and vocals.. You wouldn't need 50 instances of different VST's for that right? I'm really just speaking from my knowledge here, as you now, I didn't even got to layering yet so, I'm probably wrong.. But anyway, the need for using wav files is pointed out, I'll probably get to that point later on, think of this post, and tell you you were right! So, thanks in advance..!
