Yeah, the magic "mixgoodizer". I expect the results are almost as phenomenal as the Slate Digital Virtual Tape Machine. Sigh.Triphosphate wrote:NLS by waves... has a great homogenizing effect on mixdowns.
In the 60's and 70's all engineers tried to do was make equipment clear and transparent. Now people pay money to make their transparent daw's replicate analog noise. I'm sure these plugins are a fad.

THE ARGUMENTS START HERE.
Re: What Is Your Secret Weapon?
If you have any understanding of how analog gear...like a mastering tape machine...colors sound you don't need expensive plugs to emulate something like the all mighty and mysterious "analog warmth".VirtualMark wrote:Yeah, the magic "mixgoodizer". That being said I find a lot of electronic music is mixed and mastered to the point to where it sounds clinical and lifeless.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. Anything that a "magical analogue emulator" can do can be recreated with knowledge and very basic plugs. But I'll be damned if it doesn't save me a boat load of time, effort and DSP... and it just sounds good.fragments wrote:If you have any understanding of how analog gear...like a mastering tape machine...colors sound you don't need expensive plugs to emulate something like the all mighty and mysterious "analog warmth".VirtualMark wrote:Yeah, the magic "mixgoodizer". funnily i found that the less stuff i listen to the more creative i getEfrafa11 wrote:Listening to a shit ton of music.
dont get me wrong, eclectic listening is the key to creativity but overdoing it gets you too focused on what others are doing, at least in my case. i tend to replicate sounds instead of emulating vibes when listening to too many tunes
Re: What Is Your Secret Weapon?
That definitely happens, although I have a serious hard on for any type of sampling be it direct, altering a progression, granular ect.hasezwei wrote:funnily i found that the less stuff i listen to the more creative i getEfrafa11 wrote:Listening to a shit ton of music.

So I guess i don't take it as a bad thing?

using plugs that i haven't used before. forces me to use my ears instead of my bad habits.
Re: What Is Your Secret Weapon?
Oh no. I totally agree with you actually. I love those kinds of plugs man...I probably use analog emulations more than anything to shape my sounds.Triphosphate wrote:Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. I do the opposite, I rather replicate a vibe than a sound.hasezwei wrote:funnily i found that the less stuff i listen to the more creative i getEfrafa11 wrote:Listening to a shit ton of music.

Re: What Is Your Secret Weapon?
record alot of my own samples with my phone which sounds like 128kbps so my percussion and samples all have the sample sort of feel and blend better together, the 128kbps knocks alot of the high end of which is ok because it makes my highhats and cymbals more clear - basically stolen from kryptic minds masterclass before any of you say
