Hooger - Deep District (Bass/Deep Dubstep)

Post by HoogerJ » Fri Nov 02, 2012 11:42 pm

Soundcloud

Relatively new to DAW-production, I'm struggling to get that airy overall polish I hear on so many other final tracks. This is made with Ableton/Massive, rendered it 24/48000, then imported the wav into a new project, put a Waves limiter and some eq on the master (notch at 500, notch at 4500, roll off bass at 30 khz etc).

Any feedback/tips highly appreciated. Also on other elements of my track. ;-)

Cheers,
John

Good atmospherics on this, liking the rainforest noises. Beat programming was a bit repetitive though, maybe a switch up towards the latter half of the tune to keep things interesting.

like this, i think i would take some more frequencies out of the bass though, its sounding like its overlapping in places to me..but think you got this sounding nice.

Thanks wub. I think you're right about the drums. Bit repetitive. I made a couple of other clips before arranging, but I didn't use them eventually. Wrong decision, I guess.

Thx for the feedback, Barbosa. I seperated the sub (under 100 hz) and the midrange (from 250 hz and up), also to leave room for the kick. On some systems the bass is a bit heavy (in my car, for example), while on my headphones and on my stereo they sound oke.

Bit of trial and error, I guess.

My own worry was: have I glued it al together? I'm not sure....

Could yoy tell me where you think the overlap is?

Still learning a lot, so I greatly appreciate any feedback.

I was permitted to hear an incredible music ... i heard the gestation of the new world... the sound of stars grinding and chafing , of fountains clotted with blazing gems... music is planetary fire, an irreducible which is all sufficient it is the slate-writing of the gods.

Quick tips on export/bounce, always either export in 44.1 or 88.2, not 48 or 96 unless it's for a DVD/Bluray, reason is, the dithering is less good from 48 to 44.1 than 88.2 to 44.1, pretty obvious why. Just saying, otherwise your atmosphere is really on point, I just don't dig your drums samples.

Thanks for the tips! About the drums: I also think that is one of the weaker parts. Lacks variation too.
