Solid Steel Radio - Appreciation Thread.

Post by alphacat » Fri Oct 26, 2012 6:59 pm

Coldcut and the crew at Ninja Tune always deliver. Can't say enough good things about their mixes - diverse, quality selections. New mixes go up all the time. :Q: :Q: :Q:

Havn't listened for a while but back at uni i was on these every time.
They could overdo it with the 70s and 80s music sometimes but mostly they were gold

It all depends on who the guest DJ is. I don't mind the oldskool sounds so much, it's when someone does 2 hours of house that puts me off.

BUT: the awesome thing is that if you're not feeling a particular mix, just wait a couple days and a new one'll be up that's pretty much guaranteed to be different from the last. For instance, the last one had a bunch of mashups which I'm ambivalent about at best, but then went on into some completely different vibes with Dobie, Jah Warrior, new Grace Jones, etc.

Gotta say again that for anyone looking to hear bassy sounds outside of dubstep proper (whatever the fuck that even means anymore) and into the many cool currents happening across the board - juke, trap, bruk, skweee, post-everything - then I know of no finer resource.

What's amazing is how frequently they post new mixes: I used to catch them infrequently before but they're so good I've made a point to check in on their homepage once a week for the latest installments.

DEFINITELY. That one was amazing. The Amon Tobin one is also :corntard: :corntard: :corntard: .

EDIT:

The 2nd one here - the DJ Food mix - is incredible too. Tunes like this...

Ye, that's inspired me to bookmark it, not really sure why I haven't before! :W:

Think it's appropriate to put this here? ...
It's the JDJ mix Coldcut did and it pretty much blew my head off after hearing it..After checking loads of good but straight solid genre mixing back in the day, I heard this and just thought it pissed in the faces of everything else. Pretty much still does :cornlol:

First half of this mix is... weird. Like, unexpected, but after a while, kind of interesting stream of consciousness listening. Second half is the don dada himself, Jack Dangers.

Soundcloud

Also a DJ Food mix... haven't heard it yet, but it's probably good based on the TL.
