The Game - Holy Water
Re: The Game JACKS Mala
lol out of here w/ that educate shit
the alicia thing actually brings up a perfect chance to show why this game track is no good
Alicia Keys makes the track "Feeling U Feeling Me"
Mala samples it in "Alicia" (THIS IS OK)
DJ Spinn samples it after Mala with the track "Feelin You" (ALSO OK BECAUSE SPINN HAS USED THE SAMPLE IN DIFFERENT CONTEXT, ITS OBVIOUS SPIN HASNT TAKEN THE SAMPLE DIRECTLY FROM THE MALA TRACK "ALICIA")
Cher makes whatever that track is called
Mala samples it in "Changes" (THIS IS OK)
The Game's producer lifts the sample from "Changes" to make this
^
THIS IS NOT OK it is obvious that the Game's producer has lifted the sample directly from CHANGES and not the CHER SONG
IMO this is biting
done not explaining this anymore
I'm not trying to be an expert on Hip Hop or something (because im not), but in my experience making hip hop & listening to hip hop this is biting and it is not cool

afaik the people who made the original song have never done anything about it, but they weren't ecstatic about it eitherparticle-jim wrote:G.C. Coleman?dubfordessert wrote:i think the guy who actually owns the copyright on the amen break disagrees with you m8rayman612 wrote:![]()
do i have to explain this again...
breaks =/= samples, everyone can use the same breaks thats not a big deal
taking a sample directly from another production that already has sampled an original tune
is wrong

Just out of interest, do you know for a fact that when you sample something (assuming you have, you've got a SC link there) it's not a track that has sampled someone else?rayman612 wrote:lol out of here w/ that educate shit

because the game track has the exact same vocal modifications as in the mala track?therapist wrote:Just out of interest, do you know for a fact that when you sample something (assuming you have, you've got a SC link there) it's not a track that has sampled someone else?rayman612 wrote:lol out of here w/ that educate shit

Re: The Game JACKS Mala
Tbh if i was in Coleman I'd be happy to have birthed the amen break, a few seconds of my own *drumming immortalised in countless classic tunes, i'd be well happy with thatdubfordessert wrote:afaik the people who made the original song have never done anything about it, but they weren't ecstatic about it eitherparticle-jim wrote:G.C. Re: The Game JACKS Mala
If you sample some song then its you taking a bit of music and putting it in a new context. If someone then takes that new thing you've created and applies it in exactly the same way then thats not taking music its taking an idea and its pretty rubbish

Re: The Game JACKS Mala
no im really not. the game's track/use of the sample is more different from changes than mala's is from feeling u feeling me, and i've always thought that about the latter.rayman612 wrote:^ ur just being stubborn pls stop

Re: The Game JACKS Mala
to be fair this is kinda what sampling culture is all about
does anyone know whether he lifted it from mala, or from the same place mala found it?
either way fair play
long as credit is given where credit is due

Re: The Game JACKS Mala
nah not really, he got the inspiration to mess about with the vocals and give them a new context, besides he called the tune alicia y'know- not exactly hiding that he's sampled.dubfordessert wrote:and that's pretty much what mala did with both alicia and in luv tbh.hutyluty wrote:If you sample some song then its you taking a bit of music and putting it in a new context. Re: The Game JACKS Mala
Its not a problem if two separate artists sample the same thing but use it in a different way. It is a problem though if the second producer just straight up copies what the first producer did with the sample, without giving any credit.
Could someone post what song it is that the sample comes from?

Re: The Game JACKS Mala
it sounded pretty obvious to me that mala put a one note in a sampler & switched the pitches to create that riff
