Conscripted grunts, yes. Volunteers, no.
Re: Bristol man gatecrashes Remembrance parade on skateboard
I'm with vulva on this one. Fuck war, it's never about freedom, always about money. Such a shame that even today people have to die just because of human greed.

In reality they fought and died for an evil cause. Fighting for evil ways doesn't deserve respect does it?dfaultuzr wrote:honest question then:

It really is not.vulvavibration wrote:don't get me wrong. i feel sorry for the people going to war or even dying for some shitass classe politique.
it's still propaganda. very lame propaganda. but maybe you're already used to this sort of mindfuckery after decades of war, occupation and slavery outside your own country.
on the other hand, this remembrance day might have a whole different point of view and meaning from your perspective.
but i'm not going into a discussion. so RIP for the fallen ones.

Go there, and try saying that again. I know for a fact you will keep quiet just like everybody else. It's not propaganda if anything it is anti-propaganda and it remembers a lot of ppl who easily forget about the cruel things that come out of Facism/Nationalism. I don't even get how you can see it as propaganda, even if some official and cool guys want to be on the screen or w/e who the fuck values it? LOL it's about 1000000000000 of deaths and the fact that we shouldn't forget why or whom died for our pity lives

I think a lot of people have made their mind up that all war is pure evil, when there's a lot more than just shooting baddies.teamhobson wrote:Are people aware that the forces are in Afghanistan building schools, roads, bridges, treating the sick and injured. You forgot to mention working wih and trying to train people that shoot you every now and then.

I think people are too focused on governments being evil and ignoring the fact that raising money to help families who have lost loved ones or to help severely injured vets is a good thing. I really don't care what people's opinions on whether we should be at war is, helping people who need it is a good thing.
Also, this guy wasn't protesting, he wasn't making a statement. For a lot of people, all he was doing was interfering in an emotional and important event for them.

Im not trying to justify what happened at all, just asking questions.
I really know nothing about the war from 'the enemies' perspective.

Yeah I don't doubt most of them believed what they were doing was the right thing. However it was still the wrong thing and we shouldn't honour those who killed others with the aim of world domination and genocide no matter how much they believed in the cause.dfaultuzr wrote:in reality the were mostly conscripted i thinkgnome wrote:In reality they fought and died for an evil cause. Re: Bristol man gatecrashes Remembrance parade on skateboard
haha yeah, ok, they were lied to. what i meant was, did the majority of soldiers fight believing what they had been told? or something along those lines

My father in law who fought in the war has nothing bad to say about German soldiers and only bad things to say about those that worked the camps after he was part of a group that went to one.

Re: Bristol man gatecrashes Remembrance parade on skateboard
to be precise, the camps were mostly run by inmates under the supervision a really small number of SS (=/= wehrmacht i.e. german regular army)scspkr99 wrote:My father in law who fought in the war has nothing bad to say about German soldiers and only bad things to say about those that worked the camps after he was part of a group that went to one.
and @Terpit: i guess all i'm trying to say is german soldiers enlisted for the same reason english soldiers did: patriotism
and i do find it funny that people use the argument "if there was no patriotism/nationalism, we would all be germans and live under a fascist state" when if there was no patriotism/nationalism there wouldnt be fascism in the first place and people wouldnt have to kill each other for the sole reason they were born on different sides of a border
