i found jamie xx/ gil scott heron's "home" impossible to mix. it seems like it's steadily getting faster throughout the song, possibly to adjust its speed to the following skit. kinda like software (mixmeister etc.) does it. this was extremely frustrating as i bought the damn album specifically for that song.

or am i all wrong about it and just a really bad dj?
as far as i can remember, i tried to match the end of the song (=faster) with the beginning of the instrumental (=slower) to verify my impression and indeed it didn't work out.

The intro to Cm3 skank sounds so good mixed but I find it near impossible, the stabs are on the &s (don't know the technical term) but it's such a strong beat my brain always defaults to counting them normally. I also find fighting without fighting hard. And a million others.

haha, this thread is funny. some of you have some strange examples...
Silkie - Purple Love is only a little hard to mix, just have to understand the arpeggios. Voyeur IS a straightforward mix - don't see the problem there :-D
Calle F is like beatmixing jazz... almost impossible.

One I had a hard time figuring out was Quarta 330 - Sabacco, but when you finally get it just feels perfect! some of the Pearson Sound material is in 5/4 and 6/4, which makes it difficult. Apart from that, some of the hardest type of tunes to mix are the really swung UKG into some more straight up stuff, where you have to choose between mixing after hihats or snares (example; El-B & Simba - Wicked Sound).

To make up for it, the flip to this is probably the easiest tune to mix. :4:

just skip it on until the hats come in, it probably confusing cos the kick/bass is not on the first beat, but the 16th hats start one 1

thanks, is the snare on the four then the three?
no, its on the 1st and 4th of the second bar, no snare in the first bar
Gave this a go here, at 27:40-ish:

very strange. i can hear the right way (snare on 1 of 2nd bar) while its being mixed but alone i can literally only hear it as if the snare was on the fourth :o still tho, this helps cheers man

Fucking Digital Fauna. I love it to death, but I have nothing else that sounds like it and is in the same tempo range.

foxtrot wrote:I can't get Cuba electronica, it's as if it drifts in bpm slightly during the tune. I know it is do-able because I've heard plenty of other DJs do it easy. Another I have trouble with is Blawan - getting me down
cuba electronica was definitely a hard one until i decided to go on a different vibe and dropped in bok bok - charisma theme (bok bok own remix) then into roska - 480bc

:)

edit: i think some people are forgetting a good mix isn't necessarily about blending two tracks together, it's knowing what tune to drop next to keep the vibe going from ur previous one

Cymatic - Glue

Cant get it to drop in time, such a big tune aswell :u:

Loefah - Mud

This one can be a bit tricky to drop perfectly with whatever's already playing

I've never had a problem mixing Mud. Always drops perfectly.
