Good point.

Actually, what people consider mainstream grime might actually match dubstep for its shitness compared to the underground.
Mainstream grime is weird cos at one point it would have meant early Dizzee, Kano, Lethal B etc so could have been considered good. Now it just seems so far removed from what the underground side of things is. Probably went down the shitter with Dance With Me.

Dunno about recently but at one point just about the only thing that I would consider worthwhile in terms of a MoS compilation would be what they call 'chillout' music. In reality though what they put on these compilations was just stuff from a variety of EDM genres that could be prefixed with the word ambient with some Trip Hop chucked in. Qualitywise these tunes are pretty good and recogniseable by most people if only through adverts etc.

Garage and RnB go without saying. Jazz is also a good shout. Mingus, Coltrane and Davis could all come under 'mainstream' jazz if only because it's mainstream is less known than most other genres.

Yeah this is what I meant. Basically, to me, mainstream grime is what papers/shit music channels/tv shows call it, where it's not grime, it just involves people that were once involved in Grime, Dizzee, Wiley and Roll Deep's shit chart stuff, etc.

I think the new deep house type songs on the national radios stations are some of the only songs I can stand to listen to on them.
The disclosure boys and jamie jones's hot natured are bridging the gap between real deep house and pop music quite nicely.

I'm saying disco/deep house
