the percussion and the sub work pretty well together, but that's all there is, so it sounds pretty empty

That's my main problem, I never know what to add in because nothing sounds right

Agree re; the empty comment, there isn't a whole lot in terms of ambience going on. The pads are a good idea...just need something to fill the obvious space between the hits.
