I've only been following this mix series, as in I've been around long enough to contextualize, since allstars 7, so my perspective might be limited, but outside of appleblim and ramadanman, the choices always seem really "safe".

No one cutting-edge or anything. I guess that's the point though. Dubstep. Simple.

The last one was super good/diverse.

1, 2 and 3 were definitely cutting edge. Some people would argue the bulk of 1 isn't even dubstep by their strict definitions. Not sure what other artists could feature on a dubstep allstars at the point these three were made? Besides breakstep which was criminally ignored. 4, 5 and chef's side of 7 were just crammed full of dubs everyone was jizzing over so no one cared how ground breaking they were though 7 could be argued to show a far more soulful side than had been showcased before with Von D, Quest, Silkie etc. 8, 9 and now 10 are just made in a time when a large chunk of this community are more interested in the latest Joy O or Mak & Pasteman dub than any new dubstep so the need to be ground breaking is more important but not really fulfilled.

yeah, nothing wrong with putting tunes that are a little older in releases like this, but when a sizable portion of the tracks have been out for months if not over a year, you really aren't playing anything too special.

Should have been an allstars squeezed in between 3 and 4 mixed by Distance or Scuba and you'd have got some. Does seem incredible that a Toasty track has never appeared on an allstars mix. Or we can just pretend Distinction - Spectrum Analysis is an allstars mix
