bassic question

Post by pk- » Sat Aug 04, 2007 9:08 pm

hello chaps

i don't really produce much but there's something i'd like to learn how to do, if anyone can help. i've had this sample lying around for ages and i'm not sure where i got it, but i'd like to know how to make it myself from scratch so i can have more control over what it sounds like.

http://www.tindeck.com/audio/file/owem-worb.mp3

its not really a wobble bass, because i think it pitches up at the same time as the cutoff goes up...but i'm not sure. i've heard it in loads of tunes (not just dubstep ones) so i imagine it's a pretty basic sound to make.

i've got z3ta+ at my disposal. any ideas?

cheers

-edited because the sound i'm after is more obvious with a high pass filter on the original

It is a pretty simple effect to create using subtractive synthesis (the core method of most analogue synths).

Rather than teach you how to create that effect, may I suggest you learn more about it as a 'whole'.

http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Un ... nsynth.htm

The 2 sections in there which will help you achieve the sound you're after is 'Filters' and 'Envelopes'.

Trust though, once you understand this stuff, your sound design will improve dramatically and SO many more sonic 'doors' will open.

Enjoy.
