Re: Use of Crackle in Music
To me, I think it because of the truly random nature of vinyl crackle which makes it feel human and natural (as mentioned before) + lack of really high irritating frequencies which are around in many digitally produced sounds. Like, no two recordings vinyl crackle sample will ever be exactly alike, even if they are from the same vinyl. probably because of how much dust there is at any one time + the accuracy of the needle and stuff.
Its just nice.

Re: Use of Crackle in Music
crackles are like a soothing not too disruptive ambient noise that stablizes the tracks vibe and gives it authenticity at the same time. my 2cents anyways. its kidna like how hearing a sampled record pitch bent in certain parts also makes you like the song more.

Re: Use of Crackle in Music
tbh i find a lot of crackle to be annoying. took me a long time to get into burial because i just couldn't be arsed with all the crackle.
it's on a lot of tracks on Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics album cos of the retro theme, where it works

Humans made computers -> Humans made music composition and arrangement software for computers -> Humans make music on these computers with the software -> All music has an inevitably "human element".
Objekt aint fucking sloppy.
Re: Use of Crackle in Music
Naaw. There’s a reason Live Music is universally agreed to be “better” than recorded music whether people even realize why. Some of it is the full Frequency spectrum being allowed to hit you, but the other 50% is the randomness of it.zerbaman wrote:Poppycock.rayman612 wrote:like it has 2 have a human element to itconstrobuz wrote:rayman612 wrote:good music is sloppy

4/4 DAW grids are cool & all, but un-quantized music connects with people on an unconscious level.
Re: Use of Crackle in Music
You know, that's not the point here. At no point did live music become a factor. And if you're listening to records through mediums that do not enable you to experience every frequency audible to the human ear, that's your own fault. Not the recordings.ketamine wrote:Naaw. Nonetheless, prove it.
I want some incontrovertible empirical evidence, not just an opinion that was formulated somewhere between smoking weed with friends and discussing the matter in question on internet forums.

b/c tha drums
Re: Use of Crackle in Music
What about them for Christ's sake. You're a producer, you should be able to speak about this.
Re: Use of Crackle in Music
do the drums in cactus sound like drums in other tunes
no, they stray away form the norm, theyre not perfect 4x4 drums... the snare is off beat its sloppy sounding
also one of my favorite tunes
