In the video he is using a plugin to make the mix mono.
Is there another way to do that in Cubase 5, besides getting a new plugin =?

You can click a "mono" button on the master, or there is GStereo, in the Gvst beta section. Melda utility may work?

Otherwise, Cubase probably has a stereo tool.
