My first offering...

Post by deadly » Mon Aug 06, 2007 6:43 pm

Please be as critical as possible but also remember that not only is this my first dubstep track, it's my first ever track of any genre that I've finished.

It normally has a longer mix in / mix out but I've uploaded this shortened version because I thought it might get a little boring (also the mp3 converter I used makes the drums / first synth seem less 'clean' than they actually are).

Anyway:

Interesting. Some electro and almost crunkish elements in here in the way some of the notes are laid down. Not bad I guess. I'm listening late at night so that always alters my perception as to how good tracks are (usually it vastly improves my appreciation of them). Ha ha I do believe I hear Roger Troutman in here. Don't know if it 100% grabbed me but you're certainly doing some different things within the dubstep framework with electro/funk elements here and there.

Thanks for the reply. It's actually my mate on the talkbox / DX7 combo rather than Roger Troutman - the original track is from here:
http://www.myspace.com/thesuperfreshpowersquad (called Sexy R.O.B.O.T).

I used one small background synth and the talkbox from it, an 808 kit for the drums and a couple of random synths.

Cheers.

Interesting. I heard one had to be pretty skilled to use a Talkbox.

Yeah it takes a bit of practice to get good but he's been rockin the talkbox for a while now - plus it obviously helps if you can play the piano well and have the ability to improvise.

Cheers for the comment Horse, I think! :? :P
